Car audio system
I think dynaudio used to make speakers for the car and they probably still do. I used JL Audio 12" woofs in my 4Runner with 40/ch Fostgate amp and Alpine head unit. Left the stock tweeters and all other speakers in place.....it was a lease. Even w...
Line Conditioner:To plug or not to plug Big Amp in
Not familiar with Belkin, but I think the amps would be better off into the wall directly. At least the 350.5I have 250.5 and it sounds just a tiny bit slower and less dynamic through SHunyata Hydra 4. I called Pass about it and they said "no powe...

Boa2, I appologize if I sounded offensive. Your posts were not argumentative at all. It is very informative to hear about how things integrate in someone else's system. However, that quote from PS Audio does sound like BS, althouth you did say "ta...
Pass 150.5 vs. Pass 250.5 ?
Dejanm, excuse my ignorance, but I don't get it. You say that the speakers are efficient enough to be driven by a 300B SET amp, yet you mention you liked the bass control of a SS amp that puts out hefty 300w/ch into 8ohms. You want a 150w/ch amp t...
ARC LS 25 Mk 11 Bypass
Oneobgyn, I wasn't complete in my post above in regards to cables and it was easily taken out of context(which you successfully accomplished by the way). I meant that HT pre/pro into the amp directly with a given pair of ICs should sound as good t...

I drive my X250.5 with 22kohms balanced input impedance with my ARC LS-25 linestage that has 650ohms bal output impedance and 6db(low), 12db(med) and 18db(high) gain.In medium gain setting which I use, there are no issues with volume. My suspision ...

Boa2, it has to do with gain as well, but if volume control allows for, say, 0.5db increments, this wouldn't be happening. BAT preamps have lots of steps in volume and will most likely be non-issue. So is the ARC Ref-3.Tboooe, how many volume step...

all is needed here is a preamp with fine volume steps. Anything over 100 steps will give you a pretty good flexibility. As an aside, volume at 0 on some preamps does not mean volume off. You need to mute it. Such is the case with some ARC units. I...
ARC LS 25 Mk 11 Bypass
Oneobgyn, I don't know how the processor loop works on REF3 but with the LS-25 I do beleive the signal still runs through some sort of a signal path of the preamp. However, I'm with you that that it has no or minimal impact to the sound quality. T...
Pass 150.5 vs. Pass 250.5 ?
Jond, your speakers are monitors. 1027BE are floor standers. I don't see any relation between these 2 pairs of speakers. Your last statement is a bit confusing. Can you please expand on how the 150.5 may sound better than 250.5 on 1027BE?
Best amps for rock and heavy metal
see if you can get a used pair of Levinson 33H monoblocks. You may be able to fit in your budget and these are just excellent amps. McIntosh MC501 monoblocks are nice too. I have a Pass Labs X250.5 that kicks butt on Zeppelin, Metallica, Floyd or ...
Acoustic Zen WOW and Sivel Ref 2
I would not recommend this combo. It will be bright sounding with pretty flat soundstage.I'd go for 2 Matrix Ref IIs instead or Silver Ref II/Matrix RefII combo for more refined sound and more dimensional soundstage.
Tube Preamps...I'm sold
Try Audio Research Ref-3 or you can try the previous ARC REF-2 Mk2 used for less than a price of a new Calypso.
Pass 150.5 vs. Pass 250.5 ?
depends on what kind of music you listen to and the levels you like listening at.Can you e-mail Focal and ask them which of these 2 will be the most appropriate? In my experience, the bigger amps will provide better control of the bass and will run...
Best amps for rock and heavy metal
it isn't just an amplifier factor as it is the speaker/amplifier combo. if you're using flimsy speakers, forget Metallica. no matter what amps you running.
