How thick should the front baffle of speakers be?
A singing cabinet is the natural and unavoidable byproduct of a thin walled cabinet. If this singing is pleasant or not is another issue altogether. Mr Shaw can can say whatever he wants about design goals and perceived sonic realities but the fac...
How thick should the front baffle of speakers be?
Harbeth owners no doubt like the way their speakers sound, but on the larger models the resonant cabinets impart a sound that isnt on the original recording. All speakers do this, but on the Harbeth models I have heard this flavor is very apparent...
How thick should the front baffle of speakers be?
Well I dont think a speaker can sound accurate with one genre of music and not another. Harbeth's lossy cabinet represents the worst possible approach to this problem in my opinion.

I would think that aluminum would sound better due to the simple fact that it is roughly 3 X stronger than wood. I would also think that equal parts of aluminum would be much heavier. 3 X the wood to equal the strength of aluminum would still be l...
Klipsch K Horns (the new AK6)
Actually I agree with you regarding dynamic drivers with horns or electrostats. One of the worst offenders  I have heard to date are the Sanders speakers. No doubt people should buy what they like but the Khorns to me have always been significant ...
Klipsch K Horns (the new AK6)
The only way to improve on some of the Khorn flaws is to redesign the speaker. I know of no serious enthusiast that uses DSP. This doesnt mean that these people dont exist, I just dont know any. I dont believe for a moment that DSP doesnt have a s...

3/4" plywood didnt work just fine. Resonance is a bad thing. Think of the surface area of a large speaker cabinet much if not all of which is vibrating.
The low frequency response is Bass, not Base.
What exactly are you bassing this on?
Bookshelf Bake Off
I would strongly suggest you give up a bit of efficiency and go with a sealed box design. Ported small box designs, especially, IMO should be avoided. You could check out ATC to see what they offer.
Planned to upgrade to DeVore Gibbon X, but concerned about comment of base leanness
So much more information is required before taking any review seriously. It doesnt help that the review is from Stereophile.

I wonder if some of you would respond as aggressively if someone insulted a member of your family or kicked your dog. I find it really funny that you take negative comments about your equipment so personally. I too doubt the new Khorns will measur...

mapman,I dont disagree with anything you wrote, but often it is the higher efficiency speakers that have a higher and more stable impedance curve for use with tube amps.
Klipsch K Horns (the new AK6)
I too am a bit surprised that a high efficiency speaker like these would have such a dubious impedance curve. As to the other peculiarities, these should come as no surprise to any hobbyist that has even a elementary knowledge of this design.
Again the topic of weight of amps
I certainly havent heard them all but I have heard some which were considered top shelf. What I find encouraging is that a well know tube preamp/amp manufacturer who I really respect is experimenting with these type of amps.

I agree with clearthink on the issue of Class D amps. Havent heard one yet that I have liked.
