Amp repair cost — is this right?
I had the same thing happen to me from a shop out of Southern CA.  $1400 to replace a total of 53 capacitors.  I didn't think my old Krell amp had 53 caps!  To add insult to injury, and after the hard sell to get me to pay for it rather than buy a...
Bass Driver Size - how much better is an extra inch?
I've never owned speakers with less than 10" bass drivers but I suspect a dual 8" driver arrangement would be fine for even larger rooms.  (3)8" drivers, probably better though.  Obviously, implementation is key.  When I went from dual 10" drivers...
Legacy Focus SE or Magico A3
I was in a similar situation as the OP over the summer.  But I was considering the Magico A5s, Focal Sopra 3s or Revel Salon 2s.  Ruled out Legacy as I was looking for a change (owned several pairs since the 90s and still own them all).  I have 19...
Springs under turntable
I've been using these springs under my maple block/VPI deck for several weeks now.  My Classic TT is coupled to the block with EdenSound footers.  Although I won't make any claims of new found audio nirvana, the isolation provided by these springs...
Suggestions for solid state balanced linestage with remote, $2000 or less
I also say try an Ayre K-5xeMP.  It is fantastic.
Have you "lied" to yourself?
The only times I haven't heard a positive change, I've returned the item due to a money back guarantees or because the dealer loaned me them as a demo unit.  Things like my Oyaide wall outlets when I ran new 20A dedicated circuits I will never rea...
cartridge headshell screws.
@tzh21y. I totally understand. After spending over a year (on and off) with a cartridge that turned out to be defective, I tried everything. Brass, Ti, SS, a heavier counter weight.... it was exhaustive. I kept some Titanium headshell screws (acci...
Affordable Processor with Fabulous 2 Channel ?
I've found myself back in this same boat recently.  My listening habits change all the time and right now, they're back at maybe 80/20 HT/records.  Earlier this year, it was 90/10 records/HT.  I used a Marantz AV7005 for several years and then dec...
Lyra Delos A truth teller or what?
@tzh21y  I hear ya.  I sold my Delos with 80 hours on it for only $950.  The boosted treble just didn't do it for me.  And I'm running OCC copper ICs.
Lyra Delos A truth teller or what?
@lewm I couldn't agree more.  I was using a Benz Wood SL and bought a Delos while the Benz was in for service.  The Benz was a bit too soft for 80s Thrash Metal but the Delos was a bit too hard.  My current Kiseki Blue NS is a very good balance of...
Thumbs up for ultrasonic record cleaning
@terry9 Those Elmasonic machines look very nice!  What size tank are you using?
Lyra Delos A truth teller or what?
I put between 80 and 100 hours on a Delos and then sold it at a huge loss.  It's not for everyone.
Thumbs up for ultrasonic record cleaning
I'm another 'air-dryer'.  Because I don't have a vacuum.  So my process is to Spin Clean w/ their solution first, put them on the VinylStack, drop into the bath for 10 minutes and then take it over to the kitchen sink and run warm water over them ...
Thumbs up for ultrasonic record cleaning
@slaw  Thank you for that!  I feel a lot better now.  I was worried some of the early experiments might have been softened a bit from higher/longer temps.  But once records are US cleaned, the differences between warm and bright recordings are eve...
Thumbs up for ultrasonic record cleaning
Wow, thanks guys.  @slaw  No issues with treble for those longer/warmer sessions?  @whart   Yeah, I do have a few more valuable records that are very noisy and would love to spend the time to clean them up if it's even possible.  One that I really...
