Ayre K-5xeMP vs. Electrocompaniet - EC 4.8 MK II, or others?
I haven't listened to the other pre but I can say if you go with the Ayre, you will love it.  For the $2k range that they're selling for, they'd be near impossible to beat.  And if anything goes wrong with it, you're in great hands.
Anyone here tweak any Legacy Focus speakers?
I have OG Legacy Focus speakers and I’ll add something to this thread even though I moved on new Focus SEs. I had them for 4 years and spent a lot of time modifying/researching drivers. So what I can add is for those looking to replace worn/aged d...
Anybody use a stereo amp with their ht? And ..
I run an Ayre KX-5 Twenty with an Anthem AVM60 processor via HT bypass.  Absolutely no loss in fidelity on either side (HT or stereo).  The only thing damping my stereo listening is that 65" flat screen in the middle of the room.  But nothing is p...
The guru on fuses:
I have no idea whether fuses matter or not.  But Ayre instructed me to remove my fuses when I told them I bought a used VX-5 Twenty amp and it came with HiFi Tuning Gold fuses.  He (not going to mention his name) said you'd be amazed at how many '...
High Value Desktop Speaker stands?
The stilt looking stands made by IsoAcoustics are absolutely fantastic.  I use them under a pair of Focal studio monitors on my desk.  Amazing how much they clean up midbass slop and allow the mids and highs to come through so cleanly.
Salk Sound vs Legacy Audio
I've owned Legacy speakers for over 20 years.  One thing they are not is bright.  I bought my first pair in 1999 - original Legacy Classics.  And bought many other models over the years including last year when I added a Silverscreen HD center and...
Are your current amps and other gear the best you've ever had?
Never!  Brown/read leads = pointed outwardBlack/blue leads = pointed inwardYeah...you're content with your system until you realize your fuses are in backwards. I'm back to using stock Ayre provided fuses so it doesn't matter to me anyway.
Are your current amps and other gear the best you've ever had?
I'm finally content with my system.  Been listening to tons of music lately instead of the gear.  And what a revelation. Ayre KX-5 Twenty preAyre VX-5 Twenty ampPass XP-17 phono preVPI Classic w/3D armOrtofon Cadenza Blue cartPS Audio P12 regenera...
High end Class D amps?
@dchang05 I think some people are threatened by Class D for some strange reason. I have a nicer Class A/B amp than your average 'audiophile' in an Ayre VX-5 Twenty. I also have a 7-channel Class D amp (utilizing Pascal modules) for my integrated H...
Bi-amping Rules
@gibalok did you ever try to bi-amp with your VX-5 Twenty?  I have the same amplifier powering my Legacy Focus SEs.  Although it sounds great, I want to experiment with passive bi-amping the bass drivers with a Class D amp.  I do have on order a 7...
Amp repair cost — is this right?
I had the same thing happen to me from a shop out of Southern CA.  $1400 to replace a total of 53 capacitors.  I didn't think my old Krell amp had 53 caps!  To add insult to injury, and after the hard sell to get me to pay for it rather than buy a...
Bass Driver Size - how much better is an extra inch?
I've never owned speakers with less than 10" bass drivers but I suspect a dual 8" driver arrangement would be fine for even larger rooms.  (3)8" drivers, probably better though.  Obviously, implementation is key.  When I went from dual 10" drivers...
Legacy Focus SE or Magico A3
I was in a similar situation as the OP over the summer.  But I was considering the Magico A5s, Focal Sopra 3s or Revel Salon 2s.  Ruled out Legacy as I was looking for a change (owned several pairs since the 90s and still own them all).  I have 19...
Springs under turntable
I've been using these springs under my maple block/VPI deck for several weeks now.  My Classic TT is coupled to the block with EdenSound footers.  Although I won't make any claims of new found audio nirvana, the isolation provided by these springs...
Suggestions for solid state balanced linestage with remote, $2000 or less
I also say try an Ayre K-5xeMP.  It is fantastic.
