@alexberger Yes, that's how its done. Note that the EF86 input tube is wired in triode mode. Its quite linear that way; my Neumann U67 microphones use the same tube in the same manner sans feedback.
Question for Atma-sphere, will expensive power cables improve your amplifiers?
One question, do you mean voltage drops from the "wall" or within the amplifier itself due to volume adjustment. @aberyclark I’m referring to Voltage drops from the wall. In the case of our class D the volume control will affect the Voltage dro...
Is there usually a dramatic difference between $5k and $10k cartridges ?
I was talking about vinyl records quality-control / sound-check, not cutting press-form process equipment. @westcoastaudiophile So was I. In the pressing plant they don't play LPs back. Instead, they send something called a 'test pressing' bac...
Turntables currently considered top of the range. Do you know what they are ?
Any thoughts on the Holbo deck from Slovenia? It combines an air bearing turntable with a linear tracking tonearm, which also runs on air.  @richardbrand Generally speaking, you want zero slop (play, endfloat, whatever you want to call it) betw...
Speakers for Graaf GM 20 OTL
@alanpiga Low power OTLs work best with speakers of higher impedance. 16 Ohms usually works a lot better than 8 Ohms. If you are not planning on very high volumes, the famous BBC-designed LS35a is a 15 Ohm load and plays very nicely with amps lik...
Question for Atma-sphere, will expensive power cables improve your amplifiers?
A better question may be "why do the manufacturers of a $7,000 amplifier even bother to include a power cable", given that it will be immediately replaced? @tony1954 Because the customer has to be able to plug it in right away. Even though they...
Question for Atma-sphere, will expensive power cables improve your amplifiers?
"Question for Atma-sphere, will expensive power cables improve your amplifiers?" @aberyclark Power cords affect the sound of an amp due to Voltage drop across the power cord. Due to the power draw of our tube amp power cords can affect them qui...
Which is best, using balanced or non-balanced connection?
However, my question is how I should connect the external amp for the best sound. Should I use the balanced or unbalanced connection? @mjrice2 If your amp has a balanced input and is internally balanced, driving it balanced will allow it to hav...
Tube Pre/ Class D Amp - Who has done it?
I've been running a tube preamp with class Ds as well. Both are balanced and the amps are so light and make no heat so they sit on top of my speakers. I'm able to run long interconnects so my speaker cables are quite short. I used to run a set of ...
Is there usually a dramatic difference between $5k and $10k cartridges ?
This doesn't mean that your audiophile cables don't make them sound better than similar $5 per mile cables. They do. @inna In the recording studio they don't. That is because the equipment in the studio is balanced and supports AES48, the balan...
Spatial Audio Raven Preamp
Do the tariffs affect the used markets as well? I'm thinking yes but not sure. @dz13    Yes. Think of it in terms of shortages. This will push the used market up as new prices go up as well. Its a manufactured inflation.  We make our boards he...
Is there usually a dramatic difference between $5k and $10k cartridges ?
how do you choose cartridge that your arm will track perfectly ? @inna Good tonearms are a trick! You'll want to use a calculator like this one. A good arm will have absolutely no slop between the cartridge mount and the base of the arm. Its...
Is there usually a dramatic difference between $5k and $10k cartridges ?
@inna @rauliruegas  and @lewm both make good points. I have two more to offer that are in the same vein: 1) the ability of the arm to properly track the cartridge is far more important than what cartridge you have. 2) there is something called t...
Turntables currently considered top of the range. Do you know what they are ?
Yeah, that's interesting what tube power supply did there. I have a hypothesis - tubes are just superior devices, whatever you do with them, if you know what you do. @inna knowing what to do with the devices is far more important than what devi...
Calculation verification please
I always thought loading was to dampen the stylus against any 'ringing' which may occur... @quincy Nope! Especially with LOMC cartridges, which have a very high 'Q' factor in their coils (so as to minimize mass) the result is that the peak I me...
