Wilson Sasha's - All evolution in Wilsons are.....
I listened to a set of Sashas at a friend's house (also a well-known reviewer). We brought over a set of our amps (MA-1s) to play- I have to say I was quite interested to see how the two worked together. The MA-1s replaced a transistor amp of twic...
Tube Monoblock location? - Rack or near speakers?
For 4 ohms, 1 meter, for 8 ohms, 2 meters and 4 meters if 16 ohms. Hifitime, I have never heard what you are saying about balanced lines and it is simply untrue. You might tell whoever told you that that they are full of beans. I have yet to see R...
Tubes vs. solid state.
Argyro is completely right. There are tube preamps that go down to 1 Hz and can pass a 10Hz squarewave without measurable tilt. IOW, as good as any solid state. Hum has nothing to do with either tubes or transistors- that points to a setup problem...
Does Class A amplifier artificially smoothen sound
Spatine, no arguments about the increased resolution of DVD-As! From your comments though, it sounds as if your DAC is creating HF noise which is making it painful. I doubt its the DVD-As myself. Its this comment:In one case (redbook CD), I can li...
Does a tube phono stage get through...
Chaos theory suggests that a tube preamp, especially one that employs zero feedback, will actually get you a better noise floor. Not- mind you, a quieter one necessarily, but one that is more pleasing to the ear.In addition, it will have less of t...
The Hub: 2010 CES + THE coverage online
Thanks- The woofers were not driven by our gear :)Thanks for all the coverage BTW, even though I was there I did not get to see any of CES at all.
Green, Eco Friendly Class A Monoblocks
If I might point out another aspect of 'green', we have an update program that allows any of our older amplifiers or preamps to be updated to the latest level with full warranty reactivation. This helps keep the product from entering the waste str...
Does Class A amplifier artificially smoothen sound
If you get a headache after 20 minutes, that is not going to work, at least not for me. I like to be able to listen fatigue free all evening long.
which is better ? MC phono stage or MM+step-up ?
Emorrisiv, sounds like you have a grounding problem. Make sure the arm ground, transformer ground and cable shields are all good. You can tie the arm ground to the SUT ground at the SUT's input and that should be consistent with the ground at the ...
Does Class A amplifier artificially smoothen sound
We've made class A amps for a long time and one thing that has always been an issue is the revealing nature that class A can bring to an amplifier. If your digital gear does not have its ducks in a row, it can give you a headache. So I'm with Stan...
Tube-amp for Magnepan?
Yes, ElectroKardiogramm has the subterranian bass that won the LP its status. I have seen this cut separate the wheat from the chaff a number of times :) BTW the 20.1 does a great job with it.
Tube Monoblock location? - Rack or near speakers?
Hifitime, if you think about it, a tube amp sitting beside a speaker is not going to get any more vibration than one far away. But really, if you try the difference between long speaker cables and short interconnects as opposed to short speaker ca...
Dynaco PAS 2 value and difference to PAS 3?
I've been doing mods on the PAS preamps for 30 years. There is **plenty** of reason to bypass the tone controls! Even if set flat, the stock line stage lacks bandwidth and resolution. However the line stage circuit can be seriously upgraded such t...
Tube Monoblock location? - Rack or near speakers?
This is one advantage of balanced cables. The shorter you can keep the speaker cables, the better (more resolution, more impact). Preamps that have a low output impedance can drive longer cables, so some single ended preamps will allow up to 20 fe...

Here are some recordings that also have impressive deep bass: http://www.atma-sphere.com/awards/bya/index.html
