What type amp to drive proac response 2.5
You should be able to find a very nice tube amp for that price. 60 watts ought to do nicely. You can find refurbished Harmon Kardon Citation 2s for that price.
Another cheater plug thread
Removing a chassis ground might break a ground loop and sound good but it is deadly if you touch the unit's chassis, and any conductor to ground. Amend to 'could be deadly'. Its that 'could' that is why there are things like UL and CE directives.I...
Soundlab Speakers - Budget Amp Suggestions
Gwho, I realize that the budget is an issue but one thing you will have to face it its really hard to get Sound Labs to sing if you have transistors. Transistors as you know try to double power as the impedance of the load is halved, which is anot...
Amplifier Capacitance
That's interesting. I would have thought the Roland stuff to go lower. We set our poles at 2 Hz so there would be no phase shift at 20Hz. We use servos too- in fact its part of our patent. It was a trick making them be stable with cutoff frequenci...
Capacitor question
Its not a good idea to parallel coupling caps. Different caps have different 'speeds' on account of their dielectric constants. The result smears the sound- that seems the best way to describe it.You are always better off just giving it your best ...
Soundlab Speakers - Budget Amp Suggestions
Grannyring, just FWIW the Atma-Sphere MA-1 would have been underpowered on many of the older Sound Labs.BTW, Roger West has a new back panel that should be available as an update to any A-1 or similar Sound Lab. It seems to be based on a lot of th...
Amplifier Capacitance
Kijanki, I thought you might find this interesting. Years ago I worked on a popular tube preamp. I found that it was a copy of the Marantz 7 circuit, sans tone controls. This preamp tended to have a problem- which was if you played a bassy track t...
Amplifier Capacitance
Bombaywalla, sorry for my tardy response; obviously you got it right.
Amplifier Capacitance
There is one missing element. That is that the power supply has a timing constant. That is to say, there is a certain time period that will elapse if the power transformer is unplugged, where the voltage will sag to a certain point while the supply...
How to get the impact of a live concert?
Here you go:http://www.audioasylum.com/audio/general/messages/62/627320.htmlOne thing not mentioned in that thread is the in 80% of all audiophile conversation, the word 'dynamics' can be effectively replaced by the word 'distortion' without chang...
What type amp to drive proac response 2.5
Its a tube-friendly speaker. 60 watts is a nice power with them too. We've had lots of customers using 2.5s.
Best Speaker Impedence for Tube Amplifiers
Here is the rule of thumb:"all other things being equal, your tube amplifier performance dollar is best realized by the use of a higher impedance speaker- 8 being better than 4, and 16 being better than 8".Tube amps in general will make lower dist...
Balanced or Not
Well I'm a manufacturer so you have to take my comments with a grain of salt on this one: once you've heard a fully balanced setup there is no going back to single-ended. I've said that a lot over the last 20 years and it continues to be true.
Feedback blew my phono stage?
Aigenga, Yes.Halcro, good to hear things are up and running! Hard to be without tunes...
Best Electrostatic loudspeaker?
Boy, the bass is pretty nice on the Sound Labs. Of course it takes the right amp to do it, one that can make power into a higher impedance (hint: don't use transistors), but the bass on the Sound Lab is top shelf.
