Preamps with balanced ins/outs and remote
One reason for going with balanced operation is the effect that this has on the interconnects used, rather than just the fact that the amp might have a balanced input. There is a standard for balanced operation that has been around for decades. It ...
Does the volume control effect sound quality?
Phd, you are correct. Start with the right value. Only then do you switch things up, if you will pardon the expression :), with better quality.Dracule1, both. First, the site commits a web 1.0 error, that of endless rant/scrolling. Second, many of...
Non-feedback amplification topology and frequency
More often than not, I've found tube amps that use feedback sound more realistic and are more compatible with wider range of speakers than amps that use no feedback. I've looked into why audiophiles think no feedback is sonically superior, but I c...

That website is terrible!
Non-feedback amplification topology and frequency
Jmacinnis, The issue here is how the amp will drive the speaker if it has no feedback. This article will explain what is going on:http://www.atma-sphere.com/Resources/Paradigms_in_Amplifier_Design.phpIMO/IME amplifiers that operate without feedbac...
The Audio Research Reference 10 is here $30k
How I understand it from several people who have worked there is that the ARC internal company policy is a 90-day product release schedule. IOW every 90 days there is supposed to be a new product replacing an existing product somewhere in the lineup.
runaway fisher 6330 Turntable
Check Ebay. But before you do that, clean the speed selector switch and speed controls with some Radio Shack contact cleaner and see if it comes around.
1/2 speed cutting not usually so good?
Not all lathes can operate at 16rpm. Certainly speed stability is a much greater issue at the lower speed!I don't buy the 40Hz thing. Our cutter seems to go down much lower than just 20Hz, as do our electronics. Seems to me it was Decca in the UK ...
From Pipedream to MBL 101e, any thought?
Suchtan, I think you cam contact the Pipedream people about updates through http://www.highemotionaudio.com.
Does the volume control effect sound quality?
I don't think anyone on this thread has denied that the volume control makes a difference. However there are engineering principles in play and they are such that if ignored, the result could be that a $4.00 volume control from Radio Shack can sou...
Does the volume control effect sound quality?
Funny, the original poster is absent on this thread. My comments have been directed to the issues raised in his post. To that effect, George, I think you are mistaken- this was indeed about the Dynaco PAS-3 and the installation of a replacement vo...
$5000.00 To Spend Looking for Tube Pre-Amp
FWIW if you can get rid of the caps at the output of any preamp it will sound better. 'Better'= more bass extension, more transparent, less coloration. So far the only preamp mentioned that has no coupling cap (or transformer) at its output is one ...
From Pipedream to MBL 101e, any thought?
Suchart, the speaker I am thinking of is made by the same company that made the Pipedreams 15 years ago. Its not Scaena.
From Pipedream to MBL 101e, any thought?
Suchtan, the Pipedream people have a new speaker that is really amazing. The high end is much more defined, smoother and faster than the 101. They have a new tweeter that is nearly omnidirectional and one of the fastest made. They have a couple of...
Does the volume control effect sound quality?
I'm with dave on this one. However if you are just replacing the stock part, you can find replacements that will sound better for under $30.00. Is this an older preamp? If so, you may have bigger fish to fry as far as the sound goes. All the older...
