Impedance between Pre to Amp SE to Balanced
@honeybadgertube  To my understanding ARC amps sound a lot better when driven by a balanced line, since their input circuit lacks the Common Mode Rejection Ratio needed to have single-ended and balanced operation sound the same. IOW, distortion i...
What is meant exactly by the description 'more musical'?
Engineer types explaining musicality. @jpwarren58 Yeah, sometimes we engineering types do that. It probably helps to correlate engineering to the rules of human hearing,  combined with actually playing real instruments. Some engineers do this ...
Preamp Gain issues with high efficiency speakers
@mstrshikadance As you've probably surmised by now, the problem isn't the preamps. Its a combination of way too much gain in the power amps and a typical digital source (your DAC) having way too much output. Your amp reaches full power with less ...

You insist on the same " technical " terms and yes volume is comething we learned and it's our taste who defines the kind of volume we like. @rauliruegas This isn't what I was talking about nor is what I asked about. The question I asked above ...

The ‘distortion product’ isn’t responsible for shaping or determining all of the various parameters that must be satisfied for a product to be considered musical. I don’t think that you are saying that it is, please clarify. @rooze Actually I w...
When to choice XLR over RCA ICs.
In my view, an extra 6db gain does not result in improved dynamics, clarity and details - it’s just louder Since personal preferemces tend to play a large role in cable selection e.g... I’ve known people that prefered using Duelund tinned cop...
What are the audio differences you hear with turntable Mats.
Interesting. I wonder if an Acrylic mat without the adhesive would be an improvement over the stock 1200g mat @aberyclark The stock Technics mat is junk IMO/IME. So yes. @ghdprentice While I agree with your statement, I've found in practice t...
The dangerous world of Reel-to-Reel Tape
I should also point out that tape heads and guides need to be periodically deguassed because they can pick up a residual magnetic field that will slowly erase the high frequencies on the tape. To do that you need a tape head demagnetizer.
The dangerous world of Reel-to-Reel Tape
Around the mid 2000’s, I noticed my Ampex tapes started to sound muddy and were leaving a lot of residue on the tape heads, pinch rollers, and transport mechanism so I had to stop using them (because they sounded like crap). @oldschool1948 This...
Room Correction Required
I’m betting that since the mid bass null is not too severe, it will be bettered or cured. @mitchellcp The way room correction works is its an active EQ device that compares the incoming signal to what it hears happening in the room. This might be...

It’s like saying “I’m pleased with it”. Pleased, until you find something that comes closer to the mark, for example you find out that you can have something be both smoother and more detailed instead of bright and detailed. Tube products tend...
Blowing Fuses. Dennis Had Inspire 300B SET
@moose89 Does the amp blow its fuse if the power tubes are not installed but the rectifier is?

OK in this post Raul seems to be saying that human hearing perceptual rules are learned rather than inherited. Are there any other interpretations?

That modeling start even before we comes out to the sun ligth. SPL is something that just " happens " and that we learn rigth from the start in inconcious way and then we follow growing up and follow learning about even if no one tell us what mea...
What are the audio differences you hear with turntable Mats.
@aberyclark Yes! As you might know, acrylic can be different durometer (hardness) values depending on how its made. What you want is the same hardness as vinyl so you get maximum coupling of vibration from the LP to the platter pad without reflec...
