Reel to reel deck directly to power amp ? One more cable plus transformer - this will degrade the sound. Separate phono with appropriate output impedance will be better. What is the good range of output/input impedance proportion, 1/5-1/10 or so ?Ideally 1:10 or better is the rule of th...
Optimal high impedance speaker @recluseBoth speakers are excellent choices!
Tube amp suggestions mate with Audionote pre and Tannoy gold monitors The Audio Note is an OTL friendly speaker- and Tannoys are too- we have customers using both. I don't see the need for autoformers with our amps using either speaker. You don't need a lot of power with either- 60 watts should be plenty.
Tube / SS amp that handles 4ohm loads well and delivers lively texture / palpability But most of the systems have serious issues with bass lag. Especially tubed ones. Wobbly, undefined, out of rhythm bass.I find that if one is careful about the match between the amp and speaker that this need not be the case at all. In fact I've ...
Reel to reel deck directly to power amp ? @innaOur 30 watt amps don't do very well if the impedance is less than 8 ohms. IEC and NAB are a good idea. At 15 i.p.s., the difference is basically where the turnover is; NAB is at 3150Hz while IEC is at 4500Hz. There has been debate over the de...
technics sl 1200 gae Honestly i don't like the idea of having open fluid damper, but it's just me. I don't use it and have removed it on my arm at home. We don't use it at the shop either but its still on the arm.
balanced vs. unbalanced sound quality I do however have a stronger and tighter bass, actually the whole sound is now very uncolored, I have been told if I go to a pre that has balanced out to the amps balanced I will get some of my volume back because the adapters mute the signal i...
My first Tube Amplifier @wolf_garciaIt strikes me that you might appreciate this- the guitarist in my band uses a Marshall Major. I don't think he ever runs it past '2'. My first tube amp was a Knight KA-95. EL34, 35w/channel integrated amp.
technics sl 1200 gae @chaksterJust so you know, I'm not a dealer for Triplanar. I have two of them- I like them, but I'm not a dealer. The arm tower allows adjustment of the VTA on the fly. The concept has been copied by VPI, Durand and others so it must work :)I desi...
Reel to reel deck directly to power amp ? would I be correct in thinking that these dbm values, as well as the ones you referred to, mean decibels above a milliwatt into 600 ohms?Yes. However:Generally speaking a problem is likeliest to arise in cases in which the amp is high powered (a...
technics sl 1200 gae You are limited with a choice of tonearm for SL1200GAE plinth, but you have no limits with SP-10mkII or SP-10R (except for the very short arms), you can use "10.5 or "12 inch tonearm easily. We've installed 12" arms on that plinth, so not sure ...
Tube / SS amp that handles 4ohm loads well and delivers lively texture / palpability I've never heard 'tight bass' in real life. I play string bass, played in orchestras, jazz and folk combos and play in a rock band (keyboards) right now. IME/IMO 'tight bass' is a thing that only exists in stereo, and then mostly when the woofers ...
best preamps So there you have it. All preamps are the Best.
Best Preamp New or Used up to $3,000 ?? With your 10kohm input impedance on the DNA500 it need 2.2v for full output, very hard to get a tube or passive to work with this. @dsper FWIW I know of a couple of tube preamps that have no problem with this sort of load whatsoever.
Tonearms: Ripoff? I doubt my system could resolve the subtle details that a great arm such as a Triplanar or Graham, Fidelity Research, Reed, Moerch could and so on.One thing the Triplanar gets right is the bass, which so many other arms do not. You don't have to... |
