I went from Class D to Luxman A/AB - And most of what you think is wrong
@georgehifi If this comment is directed at me, could you explain how I was twisting your words? Are you saying that surface mount boards are only done on machines and can't be done by hand? How am I abusing you? Have you tried reporting my post to...
Horn Speaker Recommendations
Quite easy to understand. The OP has a modern aesthetic house - Voltis don't come near to fitting in with that decor. Same issue with Classic Audio, etc.@keithr @blindjimWe're doing mid-century modern in our house and the Classic Audio Loudspeak...
What is your favorite High EFF speaker
You mentioned with a 16 ohm IMP speaker system, amp consideration is important. In what respect? As I would think an amp with 20wpc > should be enough to push them. Albeit the caveat as usual would be any amp’s voice/performance falling in l...
Recommendations for Vintage Speakers
What is meant by 'vintage'? Are Snell Bs old enough to be vintage? IMO they were the best speaker Snell made. They go down to 22Hz and are easily driven with 60 watts, although I found 200 watts to be a bit better :)One a budget the older KLH spea...
Again the topic of weight of amps
I remember enjoying the tight bass but have to now agree it sounded a bit tauter than natural bass heard live.^^ This. Overdamped speakers have been a common problem in high end audio for some decades now as most solid state amps overdamp the spe...
Did I buy a broken amp?
It does not seem to clip or distort.   Could the amp be broken or does it just not provide enough juice for my speakers? What happens when you turn it up all the way? Can you overload it- does it get loud enough? If yes to both, its fine- that's...
Hum Super Sleuth Needed
If nothing is hooked up to the amp this issue points to the amp itself. What happens when you short the input of the amp? If it goes quiet, then the real issue is whether it has a hum when you connect the preamp to it.If it does at that point, then...
I went from Class D to Luxman A/AB - And most of what you think is wrong
The only interest you Ricevs and Mike Mivera have coincidently in degrading anything to do with Class-D GaN Technology, is because it poses a big threat to all your yet to be released non GaN class-D amps. Which you all so delicately push here...

but will they fit the budget at no more than $40k (question aimed at @atmasphere )Sure! That is why I mentioned the T-3. Optioned quite nicely, its well under that price.

LP caveat was to have ten ft at least from the spkrs. And I never delved into what or how the adjustments on the driver’s power supplies or other controls accomplished or why?@blindjim I sit closer than 10 feet; they work fine if you're sitting dow...
Trying different output impedance taps with tube amps
I believe that Ralph has pointed out in the past that using the higher ohm tap results in less distortion, increased bandwidth and better efficiency.  @charles1dad  Actually what I've said is that all amplifiers (tube or solid state) make less d...
I went from Class D to Luxman A/AB - And most of what you think is wrong
Your [sic]twisting things to suite your self, I never ever said that you can hear these frequencies, I’ve always stated they have an effect and the "output filters used" in all Class-D amp to remove them have an audible effect, because they cau...
SET amplifier recommendation
Just out curiosity, I plugged the ACA into my 89db efficient Sound Lab electrostatics (the 805 is 88db), and my Vision Acoustics Soloist (air suspension 88db), and yes it will drive the B&Ws, and probably quite well.No doubt! But its not en...

^^ Duke has always made excellent speakers- IMO/IME part of being excellent is being easy to drive! Amps just make less distortion when things are easy :)

When examining tube amps you'll want to pay attention to impedance as well. Almost any tube amp will make more power, have wider bandwidth and lower distortion when driving a 16 ohm load as opposed to 8. I use Classic Audio Loudspeakers model T3.3...
