NUPRIME EVOLUTION ONE-BEST CLASS D AMP ON THE MARKET Class D r&d started back in 1958 then in the early 60's Sinclairs' Class D amps would blow up due to unstable switching, then as we know Spectron came out with a Class D amp in 1974 that made its way to CES with positive results. Class D am...
Who needs a Preamp?? I suppose if I had to floor the accelerator to drive 55 mph, maybe I’d think the life was being sucked out of my driving. Then again, maybe I like 55. Nice and safe, good gas mileage… Is impedance matching an issue? Passive volume controls ...
Atma-sphere Updates If memory serves @jtgofish is referring to a thread that was started by Roger Modjeski. On that thread Roger made some comments that required correction of fact. Any thread on a site like this is a public interaction; 'intrusion' simply isn't a t...
How to get KT90s tested A resistor broke and a PS wire melted its insulation with smoke was the fail mode when I turned it on. It takes a bit of current to melt insulation on a wire! That suggests a short- I suspect the power tubes had nothing to do with it.
What is the best premp for Atma-Sphere MA-1 3.3 amp? ^^Yes.
KT 66 push pull vs 300B single end Yes.Push-pull amps, especially those that have a dedicated 'phase splitter' circuit, tend to make slightly higher distortion below a certain low level power. Usually this is about 5-7% of full power. Single ended amps tend to have distortion that ...
What is the best premp for Atma-Sphere MA-1 3.3 amp? Of course, X350.5 is giving out 350W at 8 ohms in the frequency range where most music lives and is therefore much more powerful than MA-1. Then the question is whether I need 350W in the flat portion of the impedance/frequency curve if I don'...
Who needs a Preamp?? The reason an active line section can sound better than a passive has a lot to do with interconnect cables. Passive controls have poor output impedance- usually quite high, which allows the interconnect cable to do its worst mathematically speakin...
How to get KT90s tested @andrew31829 In the above post replace ’plate resistor’ with ’cathode or screen resistor’. But the idea that the tubes took out the power supply because they were bad and yet the power supply is rated to handle the higher powered KT120s doesn’t si...
Recommend speakers for a large living room For something that size you'll need speakers that are easy to drive!
What is the best premp for Atma-Sphere MA-1 3.3 amp? Room size is approx 16' x 26' with 10' ceilings. M-60's with Zero Autoformers (not enough power) Bricasti amplifiers as well as Merrill Audio Veritas and even tried the new Merrill Element 118's. There were other amps as well and again just cou...
Target bias dictated by amp or by tube? If one were to use the lower of the two, which means it would be running out of spec according to the amp, does the amp simply produce less power or will the sonic qualities suffer as well? The power will be unaffected.
Capacitors for HP filters in tube amps recommendations? @bdp24 , @pragmasi is giving you good advice. I've had a number of customers do things like this and we've used polystyrenes for the job as there's very little out there that is small enough in any other dielectric.
Top vintage receivers vs. modern high-end equipment I've serviced a bit of vintage gear and one thing I've noticed is that quite often if you really want the solid state stuff to work properly its going to cost a lot to make it happen- often more than tube gear. This is because there are a lot more...
What Class D amps will drive a 2 ohm load A learning point for me from this thread is that it appears there are no standardized measurements for current and damping factor.@dsper This statement is tricky. But you are on to something - they can be misleading. 'Current' is the one that is ... |
