Woofer pumping possibly due to tube amp when playing vinyl
You might have a power problem. I saw a situation once where a tube power amplifier drew enough power that when the preamp was on the phono, it was possible for the amp to drain the AC line so far that the preamp started to shut down. That caused ...

Studebaker made some excellent cars which are real eye candy, and they have quite a following in the vintage car world. The Avanti is superlative and the Hawk are some pretty classy rides- I'd love to get my hands on one of either!!  The Avanti wa...
Dynaco Stereo 120
If this amp has a circuit the same as the original ST-120, one of the reasons it can sound as nice as it can is that it makes a fair amount of 2nd ordered harmonic. This, and the 3rd, if in sufficient amount, can mask the higher orders to a certai...
High Performance Audio - The End?
Steve's point, and it's one I've seen mentioned many times previously at shows and demos, is that better more revealing systems will often only serve to make most recordings sound worse. Regarding this comment, I've found that the better systems...

Last call for those tube linestage gems ! ~ 4.5 K or so- Transparency, timbre and holographic soundstage If you can find one of our MP-3 line stage preamps used you should be able to pick it up in that price range or less. They have direct couple...
Woofer pumping possibly due to tube amp when playing vinyl
There is but it’s about 8 feet away. Oddly enough it’s only 2 feet away from the system that doesn’t pump. Did you try shutting it off anyway? The noise could be getting in through a power cord.
Neutral Sounding Tube Amps - what gives?
I can't help but wonder about how much of this trend has happened due to the ubiquitous red Wima caps everywhere. No, but coupling caps certain do bring their own issues to the table. That is why we employ a lot of direct-coupling, including at th...
Ground loop feedback - cable wire issue
TVs are a notorious source of ground loops in an audio system!
What amp to match with Spatial Audio M3 Sapphire open back speakers
Thanks very much for your suggestions, even if the high and low order harmonics part kinda went over my head...One of the differences you hear in all amplifiers is how they make distortion. Solid state tends to sound bright and harsh relative to t...
Tube Research Samson Repair?
Even better- any competent tech should be able to sort it out.
Never Owned a Tube Amp and Want Advice
Thought it would be a fairly low cost way to see if I can hear a tube differenceThe difference between tube and transistor is usually pretty easy to hear. I've had people walk in from off the street and they were able to tell the difference. I wou...
Rega Apheta 3 Capacitance 1000pF???
@sumadoggie Sheesh. I didn't realize this is a low output cartridge. You don't really need any capacitance at all, the rules regarding low output cartridges apply at the link I provided. http://www.hagtech.com/loading.htmlFrom that webpage:The sup...
Tube Research Samson Repair?
I'm sure we could sort that out. But any tech competent with tubes should be able to as well.
How do you know when an LP is a first or early pressing?
A good example of this is the early Roxy Music records. The 1/2 speed remastered versions are worlds better than the originals.I go with the country in which the recording was made. Roxy being a British band you really want the Brit originals. The...
