TONEARM DAMPING : DAMPED OR NOT ? ? USELESS ? ? WELCOMED ? ?
I found that adding the Sumiko Analog Survival kit meant that I had to use cartridges with a bit lower compliance. IOW while solving one problem another is created, like many things in life. A better solution is to start with a properly damped arm...
TONEARM DAMPING : DAMPED OR NOT ? ? USELESS ? ? WELCOMED ? ?
The 'amp's resistor' does not make a lot of sense in this conversation. However the 'cartridge loading resistor' does and that is what I meant. If it is in place prior to the application of mechanical damping, it may well be found that the damping...
Anyone prefer EL34 over 300B?
The thing about SETs is that if you really want to hear what they are all about, you will want to use a speaker that is efficient enough that the amp is never run past about 20% of full power. Otherwise the amp will take on a 'dynamic' character c...
Anyone hear Classic Audio T9?
If I remember correctly the T3's have two woofers one for mid bass and the other for the very bottom, a built in subwoofer. Actually its simply two 15" woofers, one forward firing and the other down-firing. They both are operating on the same cir...
TONEARM DAMPING : DAMPED OR NOT ? ? USELESS ? ? WELCOMED ? ?
What I learned there and thank's to my self developed test evaluation process was that I not even losted SPL but what I losted and that was the " culprit " of that LIFELESS were the distortion levels that gone way lower and from the " life " ca...
Anyone hear Classic Audio T9?
Trying to position them for optimum sound,Because of the horns, you can place the T-3s against the wall and they will image just fine- that's how I do it at home. My room is about the same size as yours and there's no question that the speakers d...
smaller speakers for critical listening?
I'm curious whether folks out here think that standmount speakers can reward "critical listening." Absolutely! If you have such a speaker, you can get excellent bass in most rooms by using a set of Swarm subs, which are compact and meant to be dire...
Am I out of my mind? #obsessed
Gloss piano black is the hardest to take care of because everything is visible. Its like having a black car.
Anyone prefer EL34 over 300B?
@chinnook9   Sensitivity is 2.83 volts/1 meter. Since your Tekton is 4 ohms, that means that 2.83Volts is 2 watts. In turn this means that the efficiency is actually 92dB. That is a medium efficiency and far too low to hear what a 300b amp is all ...
Do you use a Subwoofer when listening to stereo?
My experience is different but I think I might go about it differently than most. Up at the crossover point I am just listening and I do not want to hear it. The subwoofers should just disappear(remember I use a crossover point of 125 Hz). It h...
TONEARM DAMPING : DAMPED OR NOT ? ? USELESS ? ? WELCOMED ? ?
I thought we were talking about oil or silicone based damping systems with troughs, paddles and goo. Obviously arm tubes can't ring which is why aluminum is frequently used. Stuff makes a worthless bell.It appears that we're talking about all th...

TONEARM DAMPING : DAMPED OR NOT ? ? USELESS ? ? WELCOMED ? ?
many years ago Sumiko marketed the Analog Survival Kit that is a great analog accesory. A friend of mine, Warren Gehl (currently at ARC) was the designer of this product. I had pre-production and production sample that I used on my SME5, which re...
Warm up time for record playing
I've not encountered that. I've experienced warmup many times otherwise.
