Polarity of XLR to RCA @dtune If a US product, pin 2 of the XLR is the same is the tip of the TRS connection and is non-inverting, which should be the same is the center pin of the RCA. In Europe, the polarity of pins 2 and 3 is reversed.
joule la150mkII- preamp @syhilly0107 Obviously Jud used different knobs over time. Before you do anything I'd call Rick at Signature Sound (he's one of our dealers) and see what he says. It really won't be worth it if you damage one of those controls!
300B or 2a3 SET Class A for Heretic Model A? It always bothers me when some asks about a lower power tube amp and someone chimes in with, get a higher powered amp. To me if you want a 300b, 2A3 or 45 amp get one. I have all three. I listen to music all day and at good volume and one room is...
joule la150mkII- preamp @syhilly0107 They are held on by 2 Allen drive set screws, 1/16" driver takes them loose. DO NOT try to pull them off without loosening the screws!! You may find that the shaft of the control comes out with it. The balance control is nla and the ...
300B or 2a3 SET Class A for Heretic Model A? Well are 100db if that doesn’t work for 45… @superelmar exactly! You need about 6-7 dB more; type 45 amps are better suited for headphones.
SUT help @bobsdevices Our phono sections are designed to work with LOMC cartridges directly. It seems where SUTs are best suited is if the phono section is designed for high output MM cartridges. That's always been their traditional use.
My Caladan Impressons @prismvineyards Give the speakers time to break in. Also make sure they have at least 5 feet from the wall behind them and you might want to work with how toed in they are- these things have a big effect on how they present.
High sensitivity (99) with mid powered (50 to 100 wpc/tube) amps? @immatthewj @hilde45 There's no downside to running a bit more power on a higher efficiency speaker! I've done it for years (my speakers are 98dB). I've found that many lower powered amps make just as much noise floor as higher powered amps, so no...
300B or 2a3 SET Class A for Heretic Model A? @superelmar A lot depends on your room size. When you are using SETs, if you run them past about 20-25% of full power they tend to make more higher ordered harmonics, which, since the power is usually on transients, tends to make the amp sound mor...
Living With A Class A Tube Amp Amplifiers employing tubes often present a larger, deeper sound stage that some term ‘halographic.’ Tubes also have a distinctive distortion signature that I notice most with guitar treble. Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan solos sound like the...
Living With A Class A Tube Amp @immatthewj FWIW, 'pure class A' is a marketing phrase. As far as engineering goes, a circuit is either class A or its not. None of this 'enriched class A' stuff you often see (such amps are class AB). In your case my guess is class A1.
Living With A Class A Tube Amp @immatthewj Class A, if we are talking about tubes, comes in three flavors, A1, A2 and A3 (recently patented). If the amp really does get hotter when you push it and it really is class A, then its class A2. In class A2, grid current can exist dur...
Living With A Class A Tube Amp Sometime in early '20 I replaced them with a set of the reissued Russiian Tung Sols and they have held up beautifully (however, I don't run them as hard and no mishaps involved). @immatthewj If the amp really is class A, you do run them as ha...
Living With A Class A Tube Amp This is not a class A amp. It is a push pull. @carlsbad2 Push pull amps can be class A no worries. The Dynaco SCA35 using a pair of EL84s was a class A PP integrated amp. We’ve been making class A triode PP OTLs for decades. If you were not a...
My Caladan Impressons Be advised that these speakers benefit from some break-in time. They sound even better at 100 hours than they do out of the box. I especially like how they sound with tubes. @wester17 Clayton Shaw Acoustic Lab showed with us at the recent AXPO... |
