A pitch too High!
However, I did exactly that and was getting distortion. So I found that by adjusting the anti skate so that the needle stayed in the center of the laser disc and without drift, that this gave me distortion free results. Do not set your anti skate...
Tonearm for Technics SP-15
my friend has a unit in a plinth with a dust-cover. it looks like OEM Technics to me, I could check. Grace arm is in a circular removable board, also looks OEM, with a long oval cutout for various lengths. removable arm board looks like this (s...
Tube Vs. SS Preamps
let’s diaggregate a little lesser/older tube gear provides rolled off treble little to no deep bass, poor bass damping enriched/expanded midrange and midbass lower sense of drive and rhythm and attack when needed improved imaging and sens...
Tonearm for Technics SP-15
will the Victor 7082 fit SP15? Of course. You can use any arm because the SP-15 is designed without its own plinth, like the SP-10.
SET the best?
My 300B amp measures flat well below 30hz. To play the bottom octave properly you need bandwidth to 2Hz. This is because once the amp starts rolling off, it does so at 6dB/octave. When you have a slope like that it causes phase shift to be pres...
Tube Preamps that work well with SS amps?
Other than when there is an impedance mismatch between them, are there any other circumstances under which a tube preamp + SS amp combo will not work well? @twoleftears  The main issue is probably how well the preamp does in the bass. This is a...
Moving away from inefficient/low impedance speaker in order to move to a Tube Amp
Why bog things down with a low impedance speaker? In a bedroom system it won't matter so much.
Tube Vs. SS Preamps
i am curious to know what you believe to be the source/reason/technical underpinning behind top level tube gear being able to generally (exceptions exist of course) provide a greater sense of air and vast imaging (size, depth in particular) - com...

I don’t know whether the SS SG phono stages account for this but I’d be surprised if they don’t incorporate some corrective filtering in the 500 to 2000Hz region. @lewm The last time I heard one, it had no eq. The claim was that it didn't need ...
Finally Learned: Subs serve much larger role than adding more low bass
I'm told the Room Perfect in the Lyngdorf makes setting up 4 subs much easier, but I've heard that crap before... time will tell. I'm sure it would. You can't fix a standing wave cancellation using room correction. The correction will tell the ...
Moving away from inefficient/low impedance speaker in order to move to a Tube Amp
Thanks...the system will be a second floor bedroom, that is around 19 X 15, with standard 8 ft ceilings. In a bedroom system your speakers will be fine if you have the space unless you really plan to blast. I would think an amp with 15-20 watts...
Tube Vs. SS Preamps
What is "fatigue free" ? @vinowino Its a lack of audible higher ordered harmonics (which, if audible, are perceived by the ear as harshness and brightness) and also low intermodulation distortion; intermodulations also contribute to harshness a...

OTHER ARMS with VTA on the FLY that fit on the SP15? Triplanar would be an obvious choice and would suit the SP-15 nicely. They originated the adjustable-on-the-fly VTA tower design used by VPI, Durand and others. Triplanar

RIAA EQ is +20dB at the bottom, -20dB at the top. SG does not require this so the statement is true.  @millercarbon  Not really... The problem is that by the time you get to 20KHz you're not going to be 20dB down. Please look at the actual RIA...
Dustcover Blues
Because of the way this works it requires no RIAA equalization. One of its many advantages over the conventional approach. @mijostyn @millercarbon This statement is false. While it is true that the cartridge has an output that seems to compleme...
