Digital amplifier fans, NAD C298 Purifi Eigentakt
To be clear, the 'D' of class D does not mean 'digital'. All class D amplifiers are analog; if not, its not a class D amp.
Class A or Class D solid-state amplifiers (modern designs)
I havenot heard that many that are point-to-point wired amplifiers using the best parts quality with customer made transformers and chokes, Audio Note non-magnetic resistors, V-Caps, copper plates, etc.  I have heard most of the typical tube amps...
Let me end the Premp/Amplifier sound debate ...
But today it's almost imposible that 2  different manufacturer designs can sound the same. That depends on how successful a design is with regards to its application of feedback. If there is enough feedback then issues of coupling caps and powe...
Let me end the Premp/Amplifier sound debate ...
The question I always had with measurements, are we even measuring the correct things for human hearing parameters?   We are, if all the measurements are actually made and often they are not. I think I outlined what is needed to know the sound...
Let me end the Premp/Amplifier sound debate ...
But I think it is about distortion and and higher order harmonics. @atmasphere mentioned it in the thread about his new class-D amp… maybe on another forum though? The “quiet loudness” is something I do not hear often. Mostly because I do not he...
Class A or Class D solid-state amplifiers (modern designs)
Objectivism ruled and high negative feedback gave vanishingly low THD and IM numbers.  However, the resulting sound quality got worse, not better.  TIM distortion was discovered, feedback was dialed back, and the importance of listening was once ...
Class A or Class D solid-state amplifiers (modern designs)
To date, we have not heard a class D amplifier that competes in sound quality.  We are open to hear something that comes close but not yet to our ears. I have. FWIW class D amps vary at least as much in sound as tube amps do.
ATMA-SPHERE MA-1 MK11.3 with magnepans, am I completely mad?!
If you have a woofer amp, and the mids and highs are handled by the MA-1 I think you have a shot at it. You might want to also try the ZEROs with the amps (www.zeroimpedance.com); do both ways and see what you prefer.

Let’s compare and contrast. Which one is technically better? Here's what you're up against: distortion. Sure, class A does not have crossover distortion. Neither does class D.  The main thing you're dealing with is IMD and harmonic distortion. ...
Power regeneration - good idea? PS audio?
would you recommend plugging your amps, which i own, into a ps audio regen? It depends on the amps and the model of regenerator. If one of our smaller amps and one of the bigger regenerators, yes- certainly worth a try. The regenerator should b...
Looking To Match A Tube Amp With A Pair Of Audio Note AN-K/Spe
Have certainly decided that a 20-40W pentode design is a good path. Keeping in mind the K's are in a 12x26 room go with KT 66, 77, or 6L6 for an "EL-84 tactile and immediate" kind of sound? If it were me I'd be looking for an amp with Ultra-Lin...
Paul Klipsch was right - What the world needs is a good 5 watt amplifier
FWIW front row center at an orchestral concert can easily be over 100dB on peaks. There are a lot of things that can cause harshness in a system when you try to run the volume at realistic levels. Early side wall reflections are interpreted by t...
Paul Klipsch was right - What the world needs is a good 5 watt amplifier
My peak levels approach 100db + and it does not hurt me in any way. My ears check out fine, as I have annual check ups. This is such a very important aspect to music reproduction for me. +1 My point exactly.

Measurements don't tell you how a piece of gear is going to sound, no matter what brand, especially not measurements from REW Sure they do- but for that simple reason you rarely see them , and I've found that many people don't understand what t...
The Growing Challenge of Buying NOS/NIB Tubes
@pesky_wabbit The JJ 12AT7 can be quite nice. But like any production tube, they aren't all the same. Some are noisy, microphonic and those have to be returned. Put another way, if you want some nice JJ 12AT7s you'll have to buy more than you need...
