Luxman 507uXi vs. Luxman 507uXii
@erik_squires There is a bit more to that than that. I've had both. Recently sold the 505 and replaced it with 507. The preamp section of the 507uX is better as is the output stage. How much better? Depends on the speaker. Not much of a difference...
Chord DAVE, any lesser Chord DAC come close?
@ricred1 Sure there are, especially in this case. If you like the sound of 20 element array being fed by 160 thousand some tap filter and you feel it's superior to TT2 (10 element array DAC), feeding a 20 element array DAC by 1 million taps of cou...
Chord DAVE, any lesser Chord DAC come close?
@ricred1 Did you keep the M Scaler. Clearly Dave sounds even better with the M Scaler. That's not even in contention. That's pretty much the ultimate combo. Soundstage about as deep as it is wide and then some.
Going linear - The Luxman 507ux
I meant will not sound 7 times better. But listen to the depth. I have always found Class D fails there. I have a NAD M27 and in two channel mode I always feel it fails there, in the depth aspect.
Going linear - The Luxman 507ux
Also, you're experiencing the law of diminishing returns. Of course your Luxman will sound a 7 times better than your class D amp. Just today my kid wanted to watch a show. Anthem 1120 driving the center vs Parasound A31 (there is a switch in the ...
Going linear - The Luxman 507ux
Glad you like I it. I have a few of them around my houses, I did pick one up from Mike about a year ago, same as yours. I also have the Mark II version. Not much of a difference unless in a DAC feeding it and speakers can show it, then it's just a...
The Science of Cables
Let me just mention that majority of the recordings you listen to were done with about 500ft of Canare microphone cable, and that's if the studio was fancy.
Chord DAVE, any lesser Chord DAC come close?
Chord Qutest + iFi iUSB3.0 (for power) + MScalerLet's say 1300 for used Quest, 299 for used iFi, 4000 for a new M Scaller.  5600 all in. To me the above combo actually sounds better than Dave. There is just more body to the music than what Dave gi...
Luxman 507uXi vs. Luxman 507uXii
@hoopster The EL34 that I find surprising value that can still be had for next to nothing is Japanese Matsushita. I have a couple of quads of them and I swear they sound just like a Mullard XF2 for a third the price. I'm probably never going to se...
Audiogon member suggestions for a speaker that sounds good at low volume!!!
Keep your speakers and get a Luxman integrated like L505uX/L507uX with built in loudness feature. Currently sitting in my living room, kids and wife napping upstairs. Loudness is on. Sounds great to me. Paired to Aerial 5Ts.
Luxman 507uXi vs. Luxman 507uXii
@hoopster One of these days I will put my collection of NOS Amperex EL34 up for sale. I've got 5 or 6 NOS matched quads. Best EL34 ever made. I wonder what a quad of them goes for these days.
Luxman 507uXi vs. Luxman 507uXii
Basically there really only is once difference between the two as far as I've been able to tell after listening for a while. The bass is even tighter on the Mark II, just a bit more resolution to it. But the original 507uX never really suffered in...
Yamaha a-s2100 v Luxman L550AX v Accuphase E350
There is a very fine Luxman L507uX for sale here on Audiogon from a Luxman dealer. It's brand new. I'd make Mike an offer and get 507uX for the same price as 505. I've had both 507uX is better, I'd say it's comparable more to Yamaha AS3000. Amazin...
Luxman DA-06 DAC vs Chord Qutest/Hugo 2
I own all 3. Luxman DA-06 is not in the same league as the Chord DACs. It is however smooth like butter but it lacks the 3D soundstage Chord gives you. I have it hooked up to a pair of Focal Shape 65s, studio monitors. And I can listen to it all d...
