Differences between cd transports?
@tweak1 Powered by, yes? Driven/controlled by, no? Power by DC, driven/controlled by AC in case of audio signal. Basic transistor theory. Are you planning on ripping apart all your components, measuring resistance across each and everyone of them a...
Differences between cd transports?
@tweak1 And how do you think that "signal" gets transferred? Let me help you out: current. It never ceases to amaze me that the biggest proponents of all this voodoo have the least amount of understanding of basic principles of electronic design. ...
Best way to send digital to DAC
Auralic Aries or Aries Mini comes with pretty good iOS software interface and will connect to hard drives directly. You will need an iPhone.
Differences between cd transports?
@tweak1 Clearly you missed my point. Being that current (AC) constantly flows in two directions in audio, even if such a thing as directionality existed, it would make no difference. I'm going to start selling the latest audio tweak. You can be th...

@tweak1 directionality resistance with AC current? I assume you rapidly flip your cables...
Differences between cd transports?
@tweak1 What audio tweakers fail to understand that not a single of these things make a damn bit of a difference at audio frequencies. You have to start moving into microwave frequencies for any of this to have measurable effects and even then it ...
Differences between cd transports?
@geoffkait Cables are directional. LOL. Settling time. I'm in the wrong business but of course I can't bring myself to that level of detachment from reality.
Differences between cd transports?
@dobnbav Of course that a DAC can improve things coming out of a transport in one simple way: memory buffer can entirely eliminate jitter and correct few other aspects of the signal. It cannot make up for missing data, but generally that's not the...
What are the top 3 USB cables being used today in reference systems?
@ghasley Last person I'd get advice from about digital anything is Lukas from Lampizator. On Chord Dave, being listened to via Focal Utopia headphones, about as transparent system as it gets, there is zero difference between digital cables. There ...
DAC measurements explained?
@geoffkait And yet software was installed off CDs for years and installs worked 99.99999999% of the time. Even one bit being read wrong can render an entire software package unusable and somehow it didn't happen. Voodoo.
What are the top 3 USB cables being used today in reference systems?
Considering almost all decent DACs these days feed everything into memory from galvanically isolated input before running the data via up sampling filter, USB cables making a difference is pure voodoo.

Really...My favorite power tube is reissue that's not widely popular
I've played with pretty much every new/reissue tube and own all NOS EL34s available. There is only one king: Amperex EL34. Nothing even comes close. Old Mullards are nice, but the Amperex EL34s are simply the best, kind of like the original Genale...
Proper DAC Upgrade for my modest system.
@hlg3 Exactly the opposite. Most DACs sound exactly the same when fed 4x to 8x CD rate. It's the great DACs that make CDs sound good as in they have the processing to properly upsample: Schiit with SHARC DSP chips, Chord, DCS, etc.
Using a DSP and DAC
@erik_squires No, it's not. Play with a pair of Genalecs before you make statement like that. They sample at high enough of a rate that you can entirely hear the difference between various DACs. I've said it before and I'll say it again. A well tu...
