Alpha-Core Goertz IC's
I love the Goertz silver sapphire. Tried the Goertz Micropurl and TQ1 and found them lacking in body. I concluded that I just prefer the larger gauge Goertz IC's.-a
best budget integrated amp for rock n roll music?
FS Audio's comments on the Mistral are consistent with my own experience. I've tried many inexpensive integrateds (NAD, Denon..) and also Magnum Dynalab 208 (Stereophile Class A) and that one from Italy (Audio Analogue I think). These ranged from ...
Help Choosing Tube Preamp
For just a little more you could get into a used Audible Illusions M3 (not the more recent M3a). This is a great preamp - neutral with great detail and tube palpability. Only downside is service from the manufacturer, if you should ever need it, i...
How grills affect?
Where can I get some acoustically transparent cloth to replace grilles on some 20 year old speakers?Art
How do you "downgrade"?
I keep trying to downgrade, without success. My previous high end system ends up trashing the "downgraded" system. Recently I tried a $3000 Stereophile class A integrated, and it sounded very grainy, lacking in presence, compared to my current sys...
Why SACD,DVD-A are already DEAD
I tested around 30 SACD's on a loaner player and found most of them were not significantly better than their Redbook counterparts were (where comparison available) or would be, IMO. BUT, the few that were recorded with DSD were breathtaking, by fa...
Harbeth HL C7 ES
How does the 7-ES-2 differ from the 7-ES, anyone know? And who in the States sells Harbeth? Thanks,Art
Comparison CJ MV-55 & 11A
I compared these two amps on several Proacs, and also the CJ 12's. The comments above are exactly right. The Proacs definitely benefit from the additional power of the 11a, and the 11a sounds more detailed, correct and refined overall. But that EL...
Audible Illusions M3 vs M3A -- Worth the extra ?
I've owned late model M3, early M3a and late model M3a. The M3a's are definitely cut from the same sonic cloth - which I feel is extremely good, detailed and natural - but in a direct comparison, the M3a has better bass control, more liquid, more ...
Comments on Cary 303 CD Player
My Cary 303/100 cd player is one component that I virtually NEVER think about changing. It just sounds damn good and has plenty of detail too, for my taste. As I have been upgrading various components in my system (new preamp, better cables,...) I...
RCA phono interconnects for Low Output MC
I have been extremely happy with the Graham IC-30, now discontinued $500 phono cable that sells used for around $250.Art
Experience with Thiel 1.6
OK, it's 10 weeks later. Have ANY of you heard the Thiel cs1.6? Let's hear a report!Art
Are silver cables on the way out?
I've gotten good results with Goertz Silver Saphire interconnects. My Nordost Quattrofils are, I think, silver over copper and are superb. But older models of silver cables sometimes sounded extremely un-natural, particularly in the treble.
Tonearms: Graham 2.1 or 2.2 vs Basis Vector
Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like we have some very happy Basis / Graham customers.Out of curiousity - what are you all using for a phono stage?Art
Preamp choice: CJ vs CAT vs First Sound vs ...
Oops, sorry, forgot to mention the associated gear in my request. I have Conrad Johnson Premier 12's, Cary CD303/100 cdp, Sonic Frontiers Phono One phono stage, Basis 2001 / modified Rega RB300 / Van Den Hull Frog. Speakers are Spendor FL-9's but ...
