Preamp Deal of the Century
I have wondered lately about the idea of separates when it comes to the phono stage. I know that separates have been the generally accepted way to obtain higher resolution, however I am not entirely sure of all the ramifications. Separate power su...
Preamp Deal of the Century
Thanks Ray. I think I will wait till the first of the year and get the Chenin. I am told that its phono stage is better than my Wright so it seems to be worthwhile to get it. Also it seems that I have read that the Chenin has adjustments to help o...
Preamp Deal of the Century
Thanks Amandarae & Kgturner. I thought that the HT bypass issue had probably been resolved by now, but the length of this thread (about 6.2 million & counting) is prohibitive in finding out. I had also heard good things about the phono sec...
Preamp Deal of the Century
I'm thinking very seriously about ordering the Chardonnay but I have a few questions. From my reading of the first couple of pages of this thread, it seemed that the theater bypass was problematic and caused some troubles? Has this problem been so...
Preamp Deal of the Century
OK so here I am looking for a new preamp and really considering the Conrad Johnson LS17. I would rather have the 16, but i can't afford that right now. I'm really close to pulling the trigger on the 17 when i decide to come here and see what other...
Help with vinyl frustration?
Dan ed, even though the Wright Phono preamp has 65 db gain and is able to accomidate the cartridge, when i tried a previous LOMC cart, I got a tube rush problem. However i think I had the cartridge loaded wrong due to my misunderstanding of loadin...
Help with vinyl frustration?
Dan edWouldn't a 1:15 or 20 give more output? I was thinking 1:5 would be less, but maybe I'm thinking backwards. Nonetheless the problem seems to have gone now that i have it turned down.
Help with vinyl frustration?
That was it. Overload. That was the word that kept running through my mind when I heard it but I never thought about the phono preamp overloading. Duh! it was turned down but not enough. The Wright has 65db gain w/o the 1:10 tranny. I've got it tu...
Help with vinyl frustration?
CmoI have used the ortofon alignment tool (2 point) and the VPI (1 point). didn't seem to make any difference. Record proximity IE end of record makes no difference. It might happen anywhere on the record so i don't think it is anti skate, but wil...
ps audio xstream sounds like....
I tried them in my system. My MIT T2's bettered them by quite a bit. Tonally correct but the soundstage was diminished substantially. I sent them back for a refund
Warm and Detailed S.S. Amp?
CJ MF 2500A or maybe the 2250. I have the 2500A and love it. It replaced a 2200 and was miles ahead of it. I read one review somewhere in which the reviewer said the 2500A sounded very close to a SET amp. A great amp IMO
Is Digital actually better than Analog?
I am dying to learn something on this forumI don't think anyone here can teach you anything.
Quality of MP3 to .WAV Conversion
Wav will not put back what compression (Mp3) took away. I can't really see how it could sound better. Have you tried lossless, ie Flac?
Upgrade Denon 103 R to Shelter 501 II?
Patrick wroteThe only problem with the low price is that people constantly underestimate the value of the partnering equipment. The Denon wants a high-mass, heavy-duty arm with high-quality bearings to drive its stiff, short cantilever and compara...
Upgrade Denon 103 R to Shelter 501 II?
Wow - makes me wonder if something was wrong with my Denon! If the Denon is really that good, why do't they raise the price to an appropriate level? Do ya think that Denon has no one with ears that can hear its superior quality, or marketers to se...
