COMPACT PHONO PREAMP?
The Sutherland Ph-3D is powered by 12 D sized batteries. Not only do you have to change out the batteries after a certain number of hours of listening, you have to turn it on and off via a front panel toggle switch. I'd go with a Dynavector P75MkI...
DTS-HD Master Audio
The bitstream is compressed, but the audio is lossless. Think of MLP for DVD-Audio. It's a compression scheme but it's lossless. When decoded by the receiver, the audio will be uncompressed.
Cassette deck source/tape monitor switch
Yes, the monitor switch allows you to listen to the signal source coming thru the tape decks inputs and compare it to the signal being recorded on the tape. If you do not have a tape loop on the preamp (a tape loop allows you to "monitor" the sign...
Best copy of Wish You Were Here
Nimbus Super-cut.
Reel tapes recommendations
The ideal storage method would be to keep the tapes "tails out" if they are unidirectional recordings such as 2 track stereo or 4 track quad (or multitrack masters for that matter). Play the tape onto a take up reel, and store the reel played. Whe...
How to transfer LD to DVD?
Sharp, how many discs do you need transfered? I have a Pioneer LDS9 connected to my PC for LD to DVD transfers. I can work on them for you if it's a small lot since I do this kind of work in my spare time.
Help: DSOTM Sounds better on CD than LP
If you are using standard US pressings of Pink Floyd albums, they will sound dull and lifeless. Get ahold of the Japanese Pro-Use edition of DSOTM and see if still sounds lifeless. The UHQR LP is also excellent, but for most prohibitively expensive.
24bit wave to CD?
Don't use data files. If you can only play DVD-Video, then using 24/48 or 24/96 audio, try DVD-Lab Pro to make a music video DVD. If you can play DVD-Audio discs, try DVD-Audio Solo.
New Wall Pressing?
Sounds like a counterfeit to me. You can check Vernon Fitch's website at http://www.pinkfloydarchives.com/DiscTOC.htmHe keeps a pretty extensive Floyd discography up to date.A_L
Alternative Tonearms for VPI
Not to hijack the thread, but can other VPI arms be used? Like the the 12.7? Other than the fact it would extend over the front edge of the plinth, would the mounting be the same, and the spindle to pivot distance?
turntable/preamp problem
Loud humming and lack of volume sounds like a loose connection at the cartridge. Check the leads where the cart mounts to the tonearm. Also check the connections at the turntable's ouput connection.
24bit wave to CD?
DVd-Audio authoring is not required. Two channel 24bit linear pcm is permittable in the DVD_Video spec.
SOTA reel to reel players
Like Dopogue says, most decks you find will need to be repaired, or at least some sort of maintanance done. I currently use three decks myself, a Technics RS1500, A Otari 5050IIB, and a Teac 3340S (for quad tapes.)The Technics and Otari record in ...
Converting LP to digital. Advice please...
I use a Roland Edirol FA-101 10 in 10 out firewire interfance and capture at 24/96k then downsample for cd.
Is A Live Concert Stereo Or Mono
Apparently none of you have attended a Pink Floyd concert. They used multi-channel reproduction since the 1970's at their shows.
