Strange low frequency noise when playing vinyl.
It's not video. It's an audio file. There's no way I could capture the low level hum with my camcorder. I used FLAC to encode the audio to make a smaller lossless audio file. You can download VLC for Mac that will play FLAC files.A_L
Gingko Cloud 9 Scoutmaster
Thanks for the input. I'm looking into a Steve Blinn wall shelf.Steve
VPI Scoutmaster and Target Wall Shelf
Here's an update. So about a week ago, I got the Quadrasprie wall rack in. I mounted it, but it's very flimsy. Not built well. The side rails are separate and you have to bolt them onto the wall mount. They do not stay at a 90 degree angle from th...
Record weights 'n clamps: Audible improvements ?
The VPI HRX clamp and ring are easy to use (other than having a place to put the outer ring while changing LP's/sides)Warped records are no longer an issue. A_L
VPI Scoutmaster and Target Wall Shelf
So it seems Target has moved their factory and the shelf is on back order. I looked around the web and found a shelf I like even better: Quadraspire Q4 Wall Bracket. I opted for maple shelf on silver bracketOrdered from Gene Rubin Audio. The perso...
VPI Scoutmaster and Target Wall Shelf
I took the plunge and ordered the larger single shelf model. I'd like to replace the stock MDF board with maple later. Also would like to change the stock cone feet on the Scoutmaster to some mapleshade heavyfeet. But I'll start with the shelf fir...
Vinyl comeback now, cassette tapes next?
Those who put down cassette have never heard a Tandberg TCD3014a, or a Nakamichi 1000ZXL recording onto Sony Metal Master, Maxell Vertex, or TDK MA-XG tape.
VPI Scoutmaster and Target Wall Shelf
Oops, that should be 18.5x14 platform in my previous post.Steve
VPI Scoutmaster and Target Wall Shelf
Turntable measures about 19.5 x 14 (with motor sticking out)Where the feet are I think I can fit onto an 118.5x14 platform. The right side of the turntable may have to extended out on that side. I think I'll go with the Target 2 shelf unit so for ...
how do you determine anti-skate settings?
Interesting reading. VPI says the same thing about their tone-arms. While they recently starting making an anti-skate assembly that can be retrofitted to the older arms, they recommend an increase in tracking force vs. the use of anti-skate. A_L

VPI motor popping noise upon startup/shut off
I had a similar problem with motor on my Scoutmaster running through a Sutherland Ph3d (battery powered). I changed out the Sutherland for a Dynavector P75, and no more pops.
3 Tonearms 1 preamp
An issue I did not see brought up here is unless you are using identical cartridges on each tone arm, you will need to adjust the settings of the phono pre for each cart.
Do I really need R2R ?
Damn right, you should be scared. Only get a r2r if you're physically fit enough to deal with the throngs of hot, young, buxom audiobabes who will permanently encamp themselves in your listening room. A r2r is more trouble than it's worth, but if ...
Tape decks - still of any value?
The Nak 1000ZXL is worthless, I will take it off your hands for free. :)
