Sub for Totem model 1
You want fast musical sub, and that is a challenge for less than $500. What comes to mind is Pinnacle Subsonic (two 6.5" drivers & 350 watts), available for maybe a little more. Another option would be HSU VTF-Mk2, whick sells for about $500 (...
I need some direction
The new Creek Classic 5350 SE is 90x2, passive pre, and it sounds like you like Creeks... you get a lot more power out of it than the older Creek 4330 or the Complete you have. Could be your ticket, but like you said, you maybe ready for something...
Good passive subwoofer?
I believe you would probably be better off passing the Adcom on to someone here on Audiogon and using the funds to invest in a powered sub. For example, HSU makes excellent subs for the money that would probably fit your ticket and give you more f...
Beginnners question - Phono stage
I definitively second Photon46, he nailed it right on. Too much gain is often more of a problem. If your amp has an active pre-amp stage, it may actually sound better with the volume turned further up.
What next????
Congratulations! What does it sound like? What are the strengths and weaknesses of your "new" sound? That might give you some ideas about where to go next.
No headphone output....options???
Yes, if there is a fixed line out on your Sophia (tape out), then you could connect a dedicated headphone amp to it. May not be the solution you want to hear, as your headphone listenting will not be benefiting from the glorious tubes.... but if t...
Coax Cable for MF X-DAC V3
I experienced significant improvement in my system when I tried Acoustic Zen M2.. more body and air. Heard a lot of good things about Stereovox HDVC.. but don't have any experience with it myself.
Isolation Devices, Something to put on top of unit
Check out Mapleshade Heavy Hats, they might be exactly what you are looking for.
How sub-satellite system should work - crossovers
There are many ways of doing this, all depending on your other components and preferences. If you don't have a receiver/processor where you can pre-set the crossover freq. to the Celestion D100 as "small," then getting a sub with internal high pas...
Sonus Faber Concerto & Concertino
I have listened to both speakers in different demo setups and was strongly considering the Concertinos a few years back. Very musical and involving (more so than the Concertos IMO), pleasant, nonfatiqueing sound. Not the last word in resolution th...
Triangle Titus 202 Opinions?
Don't forget that Stereophile ratings are NOT fixed, but relative to the advances in audio: A speaker that got an A rating in 1995 might not make the C list in 2005. So, I will bet that a/b comparison of the Titus XS (which got the B rating) with ...
Hooking up sub
If your sub is powered (and it is, right?), then hooking up the the sub via the B speaker hook-up should not affect impedance, the receiver is not "driving" the sub (the sub amp is), the receiver is only sending a high level signal to the sub amp....
Using Bad Recording to Evaluate a System
I think you may be on to something here. The never ending upgrade path has been an interesting journey, where, at first, improvements made good recordings sound so much better, but bad ones became worse. But as I drastically improved my digital so...
Output of DVD or CD with a DAC
Yes, the DAC analog out (R&L) then goes to a line input on your preamp. SACD cannot be played through a digital out, and SACD DACs are not on the market (yes, there may be a few exceptions). Most DACs are intended for 2 channel music, and not ...
old vs new DAC designs and sound differences
Well, there are so many factors that affect the sound of a DAC beside the dac chips, such as the jitter reduction circuit, clock, power supply, and output stage. Even if there has been tremendous progress in Digital to Analog Conversion over the l...
