Tough amp decision
Sorry for the typo. Make that tubes not tunes.
Warm and accurate bookshelves that can handle volume
This is a lot of tremendous advice. Will hit the road, and never thought of going to an audio show. The you tubers say it is hard to listen properly at an audi9 show but might as well find out. From a near vacuum to being surrounded by audiophiles.
Warm and accurate bookshelves that can handle volume
I guess the only way to get loud is to go to floor standing. However, the speakers are pulled so far forward our listening area resembles a small room. I think having a lot of space behind the speakers is good, but does not greatly affect how one ...
Warm and accurate bookshelves that can handle volume
Thanks much for all this great advice. Just want to answer a few of the questions: 1) the room is 15 x 20, but the speakers are about 6 feet from the back wall. On one side wall behind one of the speakers there is a 6 foot opening to the rest of ...
need amp recommendations for more separation of instruments
I use feet from Herbie’s Audio on the bottom of either speakers or stands. They provide high quality isolation from the floor (I have a horribly resonating suspended floor) but are different than isoacoustics or other products because there are gl...
system synergy and problems with SQ
No headphone jack. That would be a good test. I am surprised the ARC coukd be the issue as it is a tube preamp. I have a simple volume knob from Schiit that I can use to run without the pre, and will check. Also tried a Classe Sigma 2200i integrat...
system synergy and problems with SQ
thanks for your help. it is hard to find a fair comparison, but I can look at the same recording played on quobuz versus an lp. when I do that, the problems with the b and w are much worse. both large scale and intimate recordings are harsh unless...
Combination streamer and music server…without DAC
Not much discussion here of a computer plus Audirvāna or other software, with an outboard dac. This is very flexible and I have found the DAC makes a big difference. Chord Qutest has galvanic isolation on the usb. This sounds markedly better than ...
What Gear Has Disappointed You?
Schiit Gungnir. Just did not have the sound quality for the price. In my comparisons, Chord Qutest and RME ADI2 both better, for different reasons. Surprisingly, KEF LS50 Meta. Lots of hype,  but for classical music the timbres were just not repr...
Best vibration isolation for speakers on carpet?
I had really bad coupling to the floor, producing boomy bass. It was unlistenable. Did careful comparison of isoacoustic Gaia and the Herbie’s gliders. The isoacoustic was a tad more effective but both were fine. On hardwood the Gaia was good beca...
Best qobuz records to compare dac upgrades
Check out Geminiani Concrti Grossi. Academy of ancient music. Harmonia  Mundi.
Two amps into one pair of speakers
Accidentally having them both on at the same time is a great way to create memories. You can build a switch pretty cheaply, but need to use a different approach for tube versus solid state amps. Be sure the switch is rated for the current at or ab...
STREAMING - QOBUZ VS TIDAL AND ROON'S PREFERENCES
A bit off topic, but after months of using Quobuz to Roon (which sounds better than Tidal to me) I finally compared to my old setup, Audirvāna into DAC via usb. Audirvāna was substantially better. All going into Chord Qutest, Roon via Ethernet wit...
test crossovers or capacitors with frequency sweep
Thanks to you all for your advice. I will try this simply for the fun of it, as a mic is not that expensive. I guess an important conclusion from what you are saying is that capacitor changes that can be heard and matter will not make a big differ...
test crossovers or capacitors with frequency sweep
thanks- my main issue is that it is really hard to get to the crossover for one of the speakers that I also want to work on (B and W 803 matrix series 2).
