for streaming why not computer/galvanic isolation/DAC clock? Amazingly when I plug anything into the “high current” outlet on the Panamax I get all sorts of noise coming out of the components, revealed by the sniffer. Even if I put in a simple floor lamp with no bulb in the socket, the noise appears, with l...
for streaming why not computer/galvanic isolation/DAC clock? Forgot to mention that I have the power amp on one dedicated circuit, the DAC and pre on another. Computer is plugged into a regular wall outlet. Using a Panamax power conditioner on the outlet with the DAC and Pre. No ground loops that I can hear.
Eliminated my preamp with amazing results much appreciate antirunge2. I will stop saying thanks (just think it) to not clog up the conversation.
Eliminated my preamp with amazing results Thanks mspot. Those and maple tree audio seem to be high quality. Could put in a transformer for volume control and diy. Appreciate the tip. Amazing when you get into this how many small shops there are on the web doing really interesting things.
Eliminated my preamp with amazing results Hi Atmasphere - I have found a lot of switches on line, but also reviews saying they were poorly implemented and would affect SQ. I wonder if someone has tried or can recommend a specific switch that is well made and will be transparent.
Eliminated my preamp with amazing results I have a related question - when my preamp broke I made the same discovery while it was away for repair (RME ADI DAC2 now goes directly into McIntosh 462 amp). Both components have balanced connections. I have discovered that my tube pre (ARC LS25...
surprising comparison of tube preamps Thanks to all. Lots of good advice here. Further research and your posts confirm that a single ended pre in the chain certainly can make a positive difference. I like comparing vintage speakers and currently am using a B and W 803 matrix 2. The “s...
What speakers work with low wattage class A amps Maybe I should turn the question on its head and ask: What class A amp that is between 5K and 10K or so can drive speakers like the Celestion 700se. or Harbeth 30.2. I guess that is like asking what are some good higher watt Class A amps in that p...
What speakers work with low wattage class A amps Thanks everyone! An enormous number of suggestions to research and hopefully hear. My tastes seem to run to the “British sound”. I have Celestion 700se and 6si that I like a lot. Have had a really tough time using my B and W 803 matrix series 2. H...
Name 3 songs where audio quality and song quality completely align Bach Brandenburg Concertos done by Cafe Zimmerman.
Tough amp decision That is indeed what drew us away from the mac - simply asking what we wanted to sit back and enjoy. Thanks for looking into the JC5. It is on its way so we will see. I will follow your advice and try to hear an all ARC on the road. That will mean ...
Tough amp decision Hi ghdprentice - Your advice has been really useful - Thanks! Especially the part about taking a weekend audio trip with my wife :) She has agreed so may in fact be the elusive audio babe. I will try to get a chance to listen to the AR Amp. I...
Tough amp decision Overwhelming choices here! Thanks everyone for the advice and my now long list of amps to consider. I was able to get Mcintosh integrateds into the house. Not much else available to audition locally. We enjoyed the 312 (tube pre, solid state power...
Tough amp decision Comparing the JC5 and the Mcintoshes precisely because they are so different. Not so easy for me to get to a dealer and have to screen based on reading (and what you say!). Everything seems to point to Qutest being better than the McIntosh interna...
Tough amp decision Also seems the Parasound JC5 might be a good choice. I like classical music and also some rock and jazz. Reviews indicate JC5 could be better for instrument timbres and soundstage. Said to have better bass dynamics too. |
