Why do digital cables sound different? Gee.......how did I ever miss this one? I gotta pay more attention to what goes on around here.OK.....briefly.........the impedance of the cable, transport and receiver have to be matched. In the case of SPDIF, that means 75 ohms. 75 ohms means BN...
Zero feedback and class A,which is better? Which is better?Neither. Comparing apples and oranges. Some may go as far to say that a zero-feedback Class A would be the ideal amp.(Actually, the further a "zero-feedback" amp is biased into Class A, the better it will sound. To work well in a w...
external power supplies Well, in theory.........you could introduce some RF noise and other crud along the cable from the supply to the preamp. Keeping the power transformers as far away as possible from sensitive circuitry is a good idea.(Also applies to amps like the S...
Nuforce 9.02s powering Maggies? Hmmm.....interesting thread. Most of our customers own Maggies.Oh, well.....whatever.
Whose got best class D at this point? The feedback we have regarding our amps is that they might not be the best choice for a horn speaker. That may extend to many of the other brands as well, but that is just my "best guess". So, you may want to proceed with caution. The sound of "di...
To ground or not to ground? Someone with a L75........Sold mine 25 years ago, so I can not replicate the problem. Anyway, you had a ground loop of some sort, and removing the ground on the TT may be the second best approach.Best would be to find out why, but that takes time ...
High Current / Low Current / No Current ?????? Matti Otala....the guy who did all the work on "TIM" wrote a paper for the AES (and believe it or not.......they accepted it! Or course, this was before he got under their very thin skin with his TIM work.)Anyway....he showed by some complex mathe...
getting rid of two-way radio interference? Why is not the ham's fault???Because most of them operate within FCC limits.CB radio types......OTOH........are notorious for flaunting the law. They should be fined when caught. Problem is, they are almost never caught. Most audio gear has little,...
Noise, hum and AC polarity OK.......I did not read all of the repsonses, and not in any detail. In short: There are VERY small leakage currents associated with the power transformers. It has to do with the winding polarity. That is why if you reverse them, you can measure an...
Class T vs. Class D Digital Amps Just because you don't like them...........Let me say this: if you want emotions, get a girl friend. [joke]OK, "emotion" is not the forte of Class D amps. They aren't for everyone. You may like them, you may not. I'm not going to apologise for mak...
Love it, or Hate it ? (wood trim) May be a bit off-topic, but.......We tried making some wood panels for our expensive amps. Exotic woods did not work. Hard to route out the logo, and it did not stand out they way it did on machined aluminum. However, on "plain Jane" woods, it loo...
Which budget SS amps use least Global Feedback? HUH?????How do "gain clones" not have global feedback? The old Threshold stuff did not have a global feedback loop, but did have a local one that encompassed the output stage. As did some older Rowland stuff (Models 3, 5, 7.....maybe a few others.)...
Are ICEpower amps really that good? Where do I start.......?1.) NuForce uses a topology of the their own design, coupled with an off-the-shelf SMPS.2.) ICEpower supplies modules with a built in SMPS (ASP and ASC series), as well as stand-alone modules. We have built amps using all o...
Nuforce Something for everyone........a comedy tonight.Maybe you guys have not read the latest offering from the NuForce gang on Audio Circle. Comedy this good, you can't get just any ol' place. My contribution to the farce:http://www.audiocircle.com/circl...
Preamp impedance mismatch with McCormack DNA2 You can load the Jensen or Lundahl 1:1 transformers higher than 10K. You have to use a HF termination ("zobel") to get the FR correct. I do it all the time. The impedance is no longer flat if you do, but there is no such thing as a free lunch. |
