CJ Preamps: Premier 10 vs Premier 14 vs. "Classic"
I forgot to say. I haven't heard the "classic". Had a look at the specs on cj's website to find out it has 6C4 M8080 tubes in it. Which is most probably from the Mullard bunch CJ bought and is probably the sole supplier. They used that tube in the...
CJ Preamps: Premier 10 vs Premier 14 vs. "Classic"
Hi,Heard both in two different sytems but similar (Acoustat speakers with Krell amplification). The 10 is the classic "lush and warm" preamp. The 14 is also warm but I would say a little more precise with a little more dynamics. But it's still the...
Spectron MIII mk II owner's question.
Hello Krell man,Conspiracy of silence is an expression I used to illustrate the lack of comments. Mmmmmhhhh! I don't know...something is missing. How many times have I read comments here on Agon about definite aspects of the sound signature of a u...
Spectron MIII mk II owner's question.
Dob, you are on a go, keep it going. Can you be more specific ? What does the Joule-Electra do that the Spectron can't ? Soundstage, depth, warmth, in front, laidback, decay, graineness of voices.... ? Lean and dry or lush and rich ? Emphasize the ...
Spectron MIII mk II owner's question.
For anyone with any experience with the Spectron, can you name a unit that absolutely, unequivocally beats it, no matter the rest of the system. Now that's a tough question, one that draws for a spontaneous answer but also one of conviction.
Spectron MIII mk II owner's question.
Hello Dob,I can only agree with you. But I did not supply the info to submit my preferences nor to debate the tastes of anybody here. Please consider my post as information and not as a recommendation from me. The point is there is not a lot of co...
Spectron MIII mk II owner's question.
Just for the purpose of added info on this thread, I will add the post of a previous owner of a pair of Spectron monoblocs (on which I've inquired to him at the time).07-18-10: RadicalsteveKiwi,I owned the Spectrons (monoblocks with bybee and v-ca...
Why Not More Conversation about VAC?
To the OP, answer is not enough exposure on VAC and very pricy equipment. I would add a limited distribution in terms of dealers and maybe a very specific kind of sound that will not please everybody.I have a VAC Standard LE and disagree with some...
Need Help with Acoustat Model 4 speakers
I drive a completely refurbished pair of Spectra 44 with a Coda 100 watts class A amp. High current at 50 A up to peaks of 100 A.All the electronics are new with V caps, caddock resistors and the rest. The panels have been soaked to remove all par...
Conrad Johnson CT-5 or LS-16 version 2
I have a CJ LS 16 version 2 and heard the CT-5 in two set ups at audio shows. The 16 is warm sounding with outstanding soundstage and deep impact. Very tubish. The CT-5 is very precise, more modern sounding with increased resolution. More like SS bu...
Made in Canada conundrum
I've not been in audio long enough to have several transactions made with the US in order a correct, full experience of the matter. I'll just say that the few times it happened, everything was perfect every time. So what gives ?I've learned to val...
Made in Canada conundrum
I’m Canadian but this as nothing to do with my opinion. We live in troubled times and I believe borders and customs people have a job to do. They have instructions and orders and most of them will act accordingly and others…..will have problems ad...
Pre-amp synergy with DNA- 225 and 500?
I could sound rhetorical but McCormack is owned by Conrad Johnson and their amps are manufactured with the rest of the CJ line in Fairfax. Could we presume matching with CJ preamps should be optimal ?
Would you pay to listen?
I would not pay to listen to a system I can't afford. Although I've heard a 300 K $ system too, and was astounded. But I would easily pay, even 200 $ for a unit that I could borrow for one day to listen in my own system. Especially one that I view...
CJ MF 2500A:is it gonna open up?
Had one for a couple of years with very revealing pre and CD player. Never was it sibilant and it kept its warmth quite admirably. New components in your upgrade might need break in or something's wrong.
