Cary SLP-05 balanced or single ended
Jaiello, read the measurements section of the SLP-05 review in Stereophile. The frequency response of balanced is not as even as single ended. Having said that, I am like you - I run mine balanced from my SLP-05 to a pair of CAD-211AE's. Regardles...
Help my preamp sucks in my woofer
Turn on thump is a common phenomenon with valve amps. The solution: turn your preamp on first, then your power amp. That should fix the problem.
Anything new with digital room correction?
Sashav, a digital box like the DEQX can do a number of things that can not be done in the analogue domain. Well, some of these things CAN be done, but not without a lot of experimentation and a lot of extra circuitry in the box. If you compare a p...
CAD 211 AE Owners
Interesting question!! Could you please post the reply here on A'gon if you find out the answer.
best in ear monitors
Just a word of warning - the frequency response of IEM's (and headphones in general) is VERY dependent on the impedance curve of the unit, and of the amplifier. I saw a test recently where the frequency response can very by 3dB just by changing th...
Plasma speakers anyone with info?
What info are you after? From your very brief post it sounds as if you want info on where you can buy a working unit. Only TWO companies make and sell plasma tweeters - Acapella and Lansche. Both are German. Acapella used to sell the plasma tweete...
What is your favorite type of tweeter?
Plasma tweeters. Nothing else comes close. The first time you hear these, you will be astonished by how slow everything else sounds. The sound emerges from space, as if from nowhere. My pet hates are metal dome tweeters. All of them sound metallic...
Active crossover advice for 1000hz biamp
Alan I am in the process of converting my speaker to use an active crossover. I have experimented a bit with a borrowed DEQX, and I can tell you that you DEFINITELY do not want this thing in your signal path. So, I plan to use the DEQX to help me ...
New owner of used Cary 306 SACD
OK here goes. I have experimented with various things under the CDP. Now have it sitting on a granite slab with Finite Elemente Ceraballs underneath. It makes a slight difference but not enough for me to bother doing it again. The player has a tru...
High efficiency speakers
I understand your problem perfectly, because I embarked on a similar journey myself. Click on "my system" to see what I ended up with. My setup is not without its problems but I am working on a solution to it. The problem with hi-fi is that you ca...
Cary 306 SACD Professional
Paul, i'm interested!! If you could post, it would be very much appreciated. Thank you.
Getting an external crossover: worth doing?
After reading your follow-up i'm not so convinced if you will get much benefit from doing this. You will free up some amplifier power by removing the bass frequencies from the MC275, but this is countered by inserting more electronics in the signa...
Getting an external crossover: worth doing?
Yes it is worth doing - but only if you implement it properly! The ideal way to do it is to remove the internal crossover in your speaker, get another power amp, and go active. There are a number of theoretical advantages to doing so. In fact I am...
Best Digital Source That Money Can Buy?
Mike i've read about your praise for the Playback Designs MPS-5. Intriguing, especially since it is more affordable than your previous digital source. Have you heard this compared to the DCS stack, and if so, what did you think of it?
Power cord for Cary 805AE?
Tran, most people who do power cord upgrades say that the biggest benefit comes from "blacker" backgrounds and increased resolution. If you have a real problem with boomy bass in your room, I don't think a power cord will fix it.
