Unsound,I made them myself. Here's the build thread from DIYAudio:Midlife Crisis.
Tube amp power watts equivalent to Solid State?
Here they are in action, BTW.Hot Hot Hot.
Tube amp power watts equivalent to Solid State?
03-17-14: Unsound"...200wpc SET amp..."? What amp might that be?This one (there's another like it for the right channel):The Midlife Crisis
Tube amp power watts equivalent to Solid State?
Well, my 200wpc SET amp sounds like it could easily blow down the walls of my listening room, sounding quite a bit more powerful than the 500wpc SS amp it replaced. More musical, too...
Just Purchased Infinity RS2B / RSIIb owned RS 2.5
If you really want to go crazy, check out the new EMIM ribbons offered by Apogee Acoustics. They fit in the standard EMIM shell and are a HUGE upgrade in sound quality over the originals. Graz at Apogee makes them in batches of 90, about once or t...
Does anyone really need to spend 10k on power
Pffft. There's a discussion on this site about people who are spending $3000 for a box of dirt that plugs into their gear. It's their prerogative. Hell, I just spent $5,000 for a pair of output transformers for my latest project. Does that make me ...
Child-Proof Speakers
These would most likely do the trick:Vitavox LoudspeakersNote the "Blast-proof" models further down the page.
No more big power supplies for preamps
Thanks, all.The amps are extreme, but remember, your microwave uses similar voltages, and a CRT TV uses voltages 10X higher. It's about common sense, fail safe protection circuits, and not working on it after a few beers.

Iso,These are my speakers:Infinity RSIIbThe oak boxes behind the speakers contain the crossover network, which I removed from the speakers when I rebuilt them with new EMIM diaphragms from Apogee Acoustics, Northcreek and Solen heptalitz inductors...

Response 34,The amp is in A1 up to about 40W, then it goes into A2. Current draw in A1 is 160mA for the output, then add in up to 200mA grid current in A2 at full power. The output transformers are custom from Monolith Magnetics in Belgium, and wei...

And here's a link to my latest project, still in progress...200WPC SET Amplifier2300VDC B+ supply...woohoo! .
No more big power supplies for preamps
Sure, if you insist ;-)26 PreampThe rectifier tube is a 5Y3G, the preamp section uses balloon 26 and 0A3 and 0D3 gas voltage regulator tubes. The "output transformers" are Bent/Slagle autoformers in parafeed, so they do double duty as volume contr...

That "air" may be serving a good purpose, namely preventing different parts of the power supply from interfering with each other. Here's shot of the inside of my preamp power supply, I purposely designed it to keep the B+ supply (front and right s...
Power supply caps
When I have to use electrolytics, that is. If possible, I use film caps.
Power supply caps
Digikey or Mouser are the places to go for PS Electrolytics, not the boutique stores. Get Panasonic THA or TSHA, they're very good, 105C rated, and not expensive. That's what I use in my builds.
