Another cheater plug thread
It's not a big deal if the current passes from one side of your hand to the other. It's something entirely different if the current passes from one hand to the other, with the path being through your chest. Then you'll be dead.
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
Still no word from Duelund or PCX on the new design of the CAST? Inquiring minds want to know.

Again, I'm neither trying to cause any controversy nor injure Duelund's business in any way. I love my CAST caps, and hope to add more to my system as budget permits.Just curious about the changes in shape and price, that's all. In my book, less e...

Not trashing Duelund or the caps, just observing. "Handmade" could apply to any part of the process, such as the fitting of the paper tube or the CASTing in epoxy, it doesn't necessarily mean 100% handmade.I bought them too, so I hope they are sti...

I have a pair of the new .22uF CAST and they are very close in dimensions to the Alexanders I have in the same value. The diameter is within a mm; the CAST are slightly longer but that could just be due to the epoxy on both ends of the paper tube....

Agreed. I've had both the Alexanders and CAST in my preamp, and the Alexanders are close to the CAST in tone and clarity. They are just slightly muddier sounding in the bass IMO than the hockey-puck CAST they were compared with. The CAST that PCX h...
Are film capacitors directional?
Just to add my experience, I've found it much easier to discern the orientation of the outer foil on film caps using TrueRTA spectrum analyzer software on my laptop. The most expensive version of this software (1/24 octave resolution) is only $100...
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever?
If the OPC271 has a fixed series resistor, how can they claim an adjustment range of -99dB to -0.3dB? Shouldn't the fixed series resistor limit that range?
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever?
How about a real link:http://www.pns-tech.com/products.php.
Anyone HEARD the qol 'signal completion' device?
If everyone is curious about what's inside, why doesn't someone open theirs up and take a look (or even some pictures)? It should be pretty clear if there is a gain stage in there or not. Is it sealed or potted solid to deny access?
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever?
Anyone heard the P&S Technologies OPC271 yet? Another Lightspeed clone or something different? It comes as a kit that can be used as a passive or fitted into an active preamp as a volume control. The opto part is a sealed black box that I assu...
Supratek is back
Been back for a while. The best news is he has a blog on his new site where he reveals lots of info on his designs. Good reading.
Grounded vs. ungrounded power cord
I think insurance is the biggest concern. If you DO have an electrical fire your insurance company may decide that your defeating of the safety grounds means they don't need to pay you for your losses, whether or not your actions actually caused t...
Small tear in PHY-HP driver, please help
I have repaired torn paper drivers using cigarette rolling paper. Using white glue like Elmers thinned with water, wet a piece of rolling paper slightly larger than the tear with the thinned glue and apply the paper to the backside of the cone. Pr...

I use CAST PIO in the parafeed-type outputs of my Supratek preamp and they are NOT bass shy in the least. They sound full, rich, thunderous in the bass.
