Toroidal Isolation Power Conditioner
Here's one man's thoughts on the subject of EI vs Toroid:http://www.soundstage.com/maxdb/maxdb071998.htm
Toroidal Isolation Power Conditioner
By their nature, toroidal transformers have a much wider bandwidth than EI transformers, meaning they pass more high frequencies than an EI would, while both will pass the fundamental AC frequency well (60 or 50Hz). The goal of an isolation transf...
Toroidal Isolation Power Conditioner
Why does it have to be a toroid? They have wider bandwith, when with a filter you want the smallest bandwidth possible. Split bobbin EI or EI with interwinding shield makes more sense.
Ref-75-SE delivered ...
That's why I build all my own gear these days. When I get the itch to upgrade I pick it up, bring it to the basement, make the changes, and voila, it's now the Ait-SEMarkII edition. And I pay the exorbitant markup to myself and take my wife out to...
vintage versus modern speakers
There's no reason older speakers can't evolve and be updated with new technologies to make them even better. I'll put my 80's Infinity speakers with new diaphragms from Apogee and a new crossover (from me) up against any of the new speakers you ca...
IFi iusb power supply and conditioner any info?
How does the IFi compare to the Kingrex double-cable and power unit? Anyone hear both on the same system?
What's the greatest bargain in DAC's these days?
Dgarretson,The Sonore board was designed with the Buffalo DAC in mind. It accepts both PCM and native DSD, completely isolates the USB side from the clean side, has its own oversampling filter (optional to use) which they claim is superior to that...
What's the greatest bargain in DAC's these days?
I built a Buffalo IIIse into my 26 tube preamp, using the 26 tube fed by Lundahl LL1676 transformers as its output stage, and added a Sonore asynchronous USB board in there as well. Salas Reflektor-D regulators supply power for the DAC and USB boa...
good diy preamp
Not a kit. Straight DIY.
atmasphere 6as7g output tubes.
Morgan Jones, he of "Valve amplifiers" fame, has written a piece on baking tubes that might be of use here. It's a variant on what Atmasphere talks about above, but using an oven to speed up the process of activating the getter flashing to absorb ...
good diy preamp
Finally, a link to the 26 Preamp thread at DIYAudio:http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/tubes-valves/151421-26-pre-amp.html.
good diy preamp
If you want a really nice preamp you should consider the #26 DHT. It's the best sounding preamp tube I've ever heard, still widely available, and not overly expensive. I built a preamp using it and the sound is fantastic - check out the "#26 Pream...
Long Speaker Cables/Short Interconnect or reverse
Here's a picture of how my speakers are wired. It's a biwire arrangement, with one wire for the woofers and the other for the mids and tweeters. Wire is Cardas copper litz in teflon, wired directly to the crossovers. Obviously the crossover is in ...
Long Speaker Cables/Short Interconnect or reverse
One of the biggest improvements I've made to my system is eliminating the speaker cables and binding posts entirely. I went to monoblock amps placed very close to the speakers, and ran the internal wire from the speaker crossover directly out to t...
OPamps still inferior to discrete circuits?
Just to add to this old thread, I just replaced the OPA827 opamps in the output stage of a low frequency EQ unit that fits between my preamp and my amps, with the new Burson 4th generation discrete opamps (on sale for $68 per pair at PCX). The cir...
