Best looking Amp/Preamp/Integrated?
The Supratek stuff is pretty!http://www.supratek.bizThe Chenin is the centerpiece of my system.
Tube Options with Verity Tamino
You can do what I do with my Infinity RSIIb speakers (also not an easy load), namely use a tube preamp with high current SS power. In my case that is a Supratek Chenin preamp with a Gilmore Raven amp. The amp is $3.5K, a little bit above your limi...
Power Cable DIY - need advice
I like Belden 83803 cable for my DIY power cords. It's not too expensive, has teflon insulation, and sounds great to my ears. It is, however, very stiff, so care must be taken in routing it to your gear.
High end Audio for ladies? Check this out
But, but, but in this picture the Bass tower is on the other side of the room from the mid and treble unit.....I guess it looks better over there, dear.http://www.womenjustwanttobeheard.com/showroom1.htm
Preamp Deal of the Century
I'm curious, too. Do we have someone besides me running these tubes?By the way, they sound fantastic with my "new" Infinity RSIIb speakers - the EMIT tweeters and EMIM midranges really deliver the clarity the 7193s are capable of.
Old Classic Receivers: A Mistake to Buy?
Oh, and by the way, I own the following vintage receivers:Sansui 2000X, Pioneer SX-750 and SX-626, Lafayette LR5555A, Marantz 1150, Marantz 2030and dozens of vintage speakers, tuners, radios, etc. I also have "modern" high-end gear as well, so I e...
Old Classic Receivers: A Mistake to Buy?
I'm in the middle of re-capping a Marantz 2230 receiver right now. It's not hard - just unsolder the old ones and solder in the new ones. This receiver has 70 electrolytics, so it takes a while, but it is fun. Since the new caps are much smaller t...
What is your favorite type of tweeter?
Infinity EMIT tweeters are my personal favorite these days. I picked up a pair of 1980's vintage RSIIb's recently and the EMIT tweeters and EMIM midranges are amazing. Crystal clear yet very dynamic. Only drawback is that they aren't made anymore,...
Pioneer sx-636 vintage reciever?
It might be worth it to rebuild if you are a collector of old receivers, speakers and such. I myself have several old Sansui, Marantz, and Pioneer receivers that I like to swap in and out of my basement vintage system, along with various old speak...
Class D amp with Tube Preamp Combo?
As I've said many times, I'm not trying to trash your systems. You love them and that's great for you. The NuForce problem I had was due to RF emission, I am sure of that. I used a heavily broken in demo unit that had hundreds of hours of use on i...
best of both worlds can u get a musical multi amp?
The Gilmore Dragonfly Look interesting. If it performs as well as my Raven in 2-channel, it would be an excellent choice.http://www.glacieraudio.com/new%20Glacier%20Audio%20Site/Products%20folder/Gilmore/Gilmore-amps.htm#Anchor-Dragonfly-14210
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
How about this:I have been reading this thread for weeks (or is it months)and have had the same thought the entire time - the BEST cap is no cap.Volleyguy, if you are this sensitive to caps, why not go to a single-driver system, or a multidriver, ...
What quest have you embarked on?
I am currently gethering quite a pile of older (vintage) gear, everything from speakers (EPI, Infinity, University, Wharfedale, Bose 901) to receivers (Marantz, Sansui, Pioneer) to tuners (Sherwood) to old tube consoles (Zenith, Andrea, several mo...

I actually had a different issue with the NuForce V2 SE and my Supratek Chenin tube preamp. The RF emitted by the Nuforce fed back through the tubes in my pre, producing a contant buzz/hum through the speakers, and a very glaring type of sound - r...

I have posted a review of the Gilmore Raven, the stereo version of the Raptor, in comparison to the Nuforce, in the reviews section of this website. This amp still amazes me months later.
