Amp Shootout: S-30, Ref 9 V2 SE, Raven, DAD-M100 Update: I have traded in the Gilmore Raven for Gilmore Raptor monoblocks (500wpc into 4 ohms). All I can say is they are the best of the Raven, plus more bass authority. I recently changed my main speakers to Infinity RSIIb's (2 10" woofs, 3 EMIM m...
Best SS amp for Zu Druid Mk IV speakers Hell, I've run my Druids with Gilmore Raptors - 500wpc into 4 ohms, 250wpc into 8 ohms. They sound excellent as well, and my oh my when I crank up the AC/DC!!!
What is the best dielectric? Ah, but a tube filled with liquid nitrogen would be even more intriguing, especially if the wire it surrounded was made from one of the high-temp superconductors. Imagine the look on your buddies faces when you topped up the liquid nitrogen in you...
"D" amps, general discussion who's 1 and why? Not at all Mrtennis - I am thrilled with the Gilmore sound. It may be that my source, preamp, cables and room just sound better with the Gilmore amp, or it may be that my hearing (and my wife's as well) just favor the Gilmore sound. I find them to...
Power Output of Class "D" amps My Gilmore Raptor class D monoblocks are 250wpc at 8 ohms and 500wpc at 4 ohms. So much for that theory. It all depends on the power supply.
"D" amps, general discussion who's 1 and why? I have owned the Gilmore Raven Stereo Class D amp and I have just traded it in for a pair of the Gilmore Raptor monoblocks. I auditioned the Raven against the Nuforce 9 SE v2 and it was far superior in my system (Supratek Chenin tube preamp, Zu Dr...
Solid state amp/Tube Preamp. Possible? I use a Supratek Chenin with a Gilmore Class D amp and the combo sounds sensational. No impedance problems there. The output impedance of the Supratek is ~200ohms, so it matches up well with just about any amp.
some 70's and 80's receivers seem to be popular I just finished rejuvenating my Marantz 2230, which resides in my basement system. 73 new electrolytic caps, 8 polypropylene film caps to replace old mylars, new lamps, transistors cleaned and re-seated with new micas, etc. Total cost was $20 for ...
Good speakers for a low budget Buy used. You can get a lot more speaker for $600.
What is your favorite tube for a preamplifier ? The 7193 (2C22) is the king of preamp tubes in my opinion. I converted my Supratek preamp to use these instead of 6SN7s; much crisper and clearer treble, with images that hover in the room with you.

What should I change A tube preamp with a quality SS amp is a great combination. You get tube sweetness from the pre, without all the tube maintenance issues (preamp tubes last many thousands of hours). I personally use a Supratek Chenin tube preamp with a Gilmore Rav...
Preamp Deal of the Century The tubes I'm using are also from 1942 and 1943 - World War II vintage. I wouldn't worry about the age, they built them tough in those days - after all they had to survive warfare inside RADAR units - much tougher than surviving in your preamp! In...
High end Audio for ladies? Check this out I'm just teasing, you know that, right?
High end Audio for ladies? Check this out So, Stereolady, what is the matching item on the left of the picture? A Dali Miniline, perhaps? Or perhaps they have a line of ultra-thin bass traps? Or maybe a divider in case I want to slip into something more comfortable while listening? In any ... |
