Clear Day vs. Triode Wire Labs speaker cables
Can't speak for TWL but I have a complete set up of Clear Day; double shotguns, jumpers, single and balanced cables. Great cables for the money. I would not call them thin at all and they sound very good on my large Pass amp on Aerial Acoustic spe...
Soundstage - Amp or Preamp?
Both, but if I had to pick one I'd say preamp. I found in my system changing from one cable manufacture recently to another really opened the stage more than anything or upgrade I've done in sometime. The difference between speaker types and brand...
Help choose best amp/preamp combo?
A21 is a very nice amp; not sure I'd ditch it for a Rotel. A tube preamp as mentioned above will probably do the trick and there's plenty to choose from so hopefully you have a local dealer that will let you drag one home first. Cables will make a...
solid state amp power
Look for an Audio Research 100.2. It's one of their best solid state amps. I used to own one and it's an incredible amp. Nothing touches it for the money.
ARC LS27 vs ModWright LS36.5 for Pass Labs XA160.5's?
I use a LS36.5 and it is a great preamp and matches very well with my Pass X250. No doubt the LS27 is a fine preamp as well. I took home an older LS25 MKII to compare to my former ModWright SWL 9.0SE and the ModWright was better to my ears in ever...

The merry go round. $700 seperates or integrated?
Pretty sure a Cambridge 840A V2 will drive your speakers no problem. If you have a Cambridge dealer near you, see if they will let you drag home the newer 850A; if you like it then find a 840A.Know Adcom amps well, especially the older units and t...
The merry go round. $700 seperates or integrated?
I owned a Cambridge 840A V2 integrated for a few years. You should be able to find one for $700 or less. Owned a lot of separate components over the years that were great bang for the buck pieces, but nothing competes for the money against a CA 84...
Tube pre-amp for Marantz 8b
C-J PV-12 is a wonderful sounding preamp.
Pros & Cons of Buying an Integrated with Built-in DAC?
My kids use an iMac at home and for the kids it's just fine. I look at an all in one integrate as the one box computer, being an Apple or a HP. I prefer to have my computer in separate boxes so if my monitor takes a dump I'm not totally out. No iM...
Pros & Cons of Buying an Integrated with Built-in DAC?
Buy the best 2 channel integrated that's in your budget without a phono stage or DAC. You'll always be better off buying an outboard phono and DAC than a Swiss Army Integrate. Look for something used like an Ayre, Pass or ARC and you'll be happy.
Best Amp for Aerial Acoustics 20T v2
Pass X350 or X250 any series will do the job. Pass sound great on Aerial's.
White power cords
Buy some Techflex and rewrap what you have if you like your existing PC's. WyWires Silver Juice II is close if you're needing a PC.
Anyone still using monster M2.2S cables (the really fat ones )
Hey, if you like them... that’s all that matters. Never been a huge fan of Monster Cable, but only ever owned their entry stuff when I was a young guy in the mid 80’s. Monster Cable and Bose are marketing giants and a lot of people enjoy their pro...
Power cord type
I’m guessing the cord's only 5 - 7ft long so probably not too much concern on the gauge unless you have a really big amp. I’d be more concern on what the insulation is over the gauge of the conductors unless it’s under 14 gauge or so. Teflon insul...
