SS preamp with tube amp
greginnh,I don’t have 7T’s but the previous 7B’s and with a few earlier amps it took a Pass X250 to really open them up. My Aerial’s sounded nice with smaller amps but they needed power to show what they’re capable of. With smaller amps at low lis...
Prima Luna Pre vs Modwright LS100
Be nice to know the rest of your system and what are you hoping to achieve? Why are you unhappy with the LS100 and is it the weakest link in your system? Of the ModWright preamps, the LS100 is known to be the more tube sounding one, but if you’re ...
preamp for CJ premier 11A power amp
PV 12 over the PV10. Been years since I’ve heard either but recall the PV12 being much better with a big tube sound. The Sonic Frontiers SFL 1 which I owned is nice but the Line 1 is a much better preamp. The Line 1 with the right NOS tubes has ju...
Preamp recommendations for Aragaon Palladium amps?
Recall the Palladium’s are balance input only so try to find an preamp with XLR out. Probably going to have less of a selection in your budget with a phono preamp. I’d look into a preamp that’s a little on the warmer side as Aragon’s can be a litt...
Benefit of a Newer (Used) DAC - "Bang for the Buck?"
All RME ADI 2fs owners really need to spend the money and throw out the switched power supply and get a linear supply. The very first evening with my RME I switched out the power cable with one I built with Furutech plugs and cable I purchased fro...
Which Speaker
Don’t bash me but if you play much metal, and enjoy it a fairly loud volume you might want to look into Paradigm as another option. Only personally familiar with the B&W and Monitor Audio’s mentioned and both are fine speakers, but if you want...
preamp upgrade suggestion around $2000
gte357sLooks like your DAC has preamp out... if so have you tried going direct bypassing a preamp? I have a ModWright LS36.5 which is a great preamp and previously had the SWL 9.0 SE which is outstanding for the money as well. As nice as my ModWri...
Looking for a CD player
Another really good CDP with preamp out and DAC input is the Cambridge Audio 851C. I have one and it sounds very nice and not bright whatsoever. It is a fairly revealing player so poor recordings are still going to sound as they are. Change out th...
Looking for a CD player
$1500 budget I’d look into a Cambridge Audio CXC V2 transport and a Denafrips Ares 2 DAC. Been a long time since I’ve listened to a CAL CL15 but I think I’d go with the separates. Plenty of other affordable DACs out there as well to pair with the ...
RME ADI-2 direct to amp
Next step is to throw out the switch power supply and move to a linear power supply. Many options to chose from which two popular LPS are the Sbooster and Teddy Pardo. I and a few others here have the Teddy Pardo and it made a noticeable improveme...
Pass XP22 demo vs my XP12
trudat,Have you tried running the RME directly to your amp yet? I recently set mine up direct and I’m not sure I’ll throw my preamp back in the chain except when I want to listen to vinyl. I haven’t put my preamp back in since going direct as I wa...
Tube Preamp to go with Bryston SST2 amp and Magnepan 1.7i speakers
Check out ModWright. Used to own an earlier version of the SWL 9.0 and felt it bettered ARC’s at least up to the LS25 MK II. It’s a great preamp that has killer PRaT. Not a fat tube sound, but very musical and very open. I felt the ARC’s felt cold...
How to Eliminate Hum? CDP + Pass Preamp + Amp Setup.
I’d suggest calling Pass Labs directly or drop them an email sooner than later. Doesn’t surprise me you’re integrated isn’t having a ground hum as it’s one device not two on the same circuit. For the fun of it, off another electrical circuit such ...
RME ADI-2 direct to amp
Probably should had done a better job proofing of spelling and etc on previous post... oh well. Spent a few hours tonight listening to an assortment of music from stuff I listen to often and a lot of music I have not visited in years. Really impre...
Can flexible power cables sound good?
Kimber Kable power cords don’t get much praise but their PC’s are great for the money and extremely flexible. I later moved to WyWires which aren’t bad to maneuver, but definitely not as flexible as the Kimbers.
