Parasound A21+ vs Adcom GFA-585se
Parasound. Couple things to consider which I don’t think anyone mentioned is if amp ever needs serviced, my guess is Parasound will be the better and likely stay in business and next I suspect demand and resale will also favor the Parasound. Not h...
CD Player Recommendations…
Also own a Cambridge 851C. Far from harsh but it’s not dead sounding either so if you play very poor recordings, well you get it. I run Synergistic Black fuses (was current at the time) with WyWires power cord. Listened to the CAL’s from the past ...
What’s the best tube for a Sonic Frontiers SFL-1 preamp
oddiofylThe SF SFL-1 is a nice preamp, well made but I would strongly suggest to leave it as is and just enjoy it. No doubt Chris can improve upon his earlier work but at what cost? Before I would spend the money, I’d buy a used ModWright SWL 9.0 ...
Speaker cable advice
Previous cables were all Clear Days, with the Double Shotgun and Paul’s jumpers. Very nice cables and I enjoyed them for many years. Still loved the faces on the sales staff at a local shop when I took them in and we compared them to Kimber 4TC wh...
Just wondering about speaker cables
First cable I can think of that attempted to do what your asking was AudioQuest Argent from many, many, years past. I’m sure Kimber and others have done the same mixing copper and silver. Definitely not going to hurt experimenting.
Theta Data Basic Transport Repair
Not concerned where the part is coming from as it’s only $15 or so. Only thing that might be an issue is if the drawer isn’t closing properly then it sees it as an error. The gear is totally shredded so surprised the drive for the disc went out at...
any suggestions on what to replace Bluesound Node 2i with
Sounds like a great dealership. I’m assuming (should never I know) the dealership let you take the Lumin home in your system so you’re truly hearing only the difference between your Node 2i and not their system? Are you using a separate DAC, and if...
100 watts enough?
I think you’ll be sorry. I’ve tried 100, 150, 200 watts, and it took a Pass X250 to wake my Aerial Acoustics 7B’s. Sure the other amps could drive them but I had to crank it to get them to sing and then I felt the amps were still struggling a litt...
warmest speaker cables you've heard?
First cables are most definitely tone controls or there wouldn’t be so many successful cable companies on the market, and many 20+ years in business. There’s definitely a difference between cables unless one simply has a system that is not reveali...
VAC preamps - too expensive?
VAC has been in business for many, many years, so if they are taking advantage of people then they wouldn’t have lasted this long. Never heard their equipment personally but they tend to gather great press. I’m sure much of the cost is the quality...
Node 2i performance suggestions pls
misterwiggles113Have you personally tried it for yourself? To start with you will need a fairly revealing system so if you do great, but if not you may not hear a difference either. I personally can hear the difference in my system with a fairly m...
Oppo 205 DAC
Everyone is going to have their opinion on what they prefer which is how it should be. I also own an Oppo 205 and frankly my RME DAC destroys it, but that’s to my ears and my system.I’m not up on the Topping DACs, but isn’t the D30 their entry bud...
B&K ST-140 amplifier buying decision
I owned the first version and it was a nice little amp; very much enjoyed it. At the time had hybrid Apogee Centaur speakers with a ModWright SWL 9.0 SE with all Clear Days cables… Kimber power cords except on the amp. Was a very nice modest syste...
Help selecting a power cord.
If you haven’t changed out spec (cheap) grade wall receptacles and dedicated circuits you may not hear much of a difference with aftermarket power cables. Start there first. Hospital grade Hubbell receptacles are a good place to start. I use AQ NR...
Solid State pre amp / tube amp
All depends on your speakers. If you have fairly efficient speakers and enjoy buying power tubes then no problem. Tube amps are great but there is cost of running them and most don’t play well with some speakers. Cost wise for most it’s better to ...
