Cd storage..what's an audiophile to do? I had a cabinet maker make a cabinet for me. Pull out drawers. Each drawer holds approximately 250CDs and there are 5 drawers. It's made out of natural mahagony and uses very heavy rails.
Audioquest Diamond Sound I tried Diamond X2 and also own Lapis X3. I prefer the Lapis X3 to the Diamond X2. I also own one pair of Diamond X3, and can only tell a very slight difference between it and the Lapis X3. The diamond X3 is just a bit more refined. Due to cable l...
Theta Gen 5a Bal Vs Mark Levinson 36S I compared the Theta to the 36, and prefered the 36. It's laid back. I understand the 36S is a bit more forward but still laid back. To me, it presented the music in a very natural way. It also has the option of upgrading to the 360S, which is out...
Dynamic vs Planars Speakers There's so much more we need to know. What type of music you listen to, how you listen (loud, quiet, passively, actively). I used to listen to systems and think about what I really wanted to hear. What gave me goosebumps. Now that's changed 180 de...
How does one get off the merry-go-round? Most here may be aware that the CDC (Center for Disease Control) has decided that audiophilia is an infectious disease. It manifests itself typically in males, but has been known to also affect some females. The manifestation process varies greatl...
balanced are they worth it? 2 things that have been mentioned are important: the length needs to be over 2 meters (probably 3) for you to hear a difference. This is true, unless the equipment you are using has a fully balanced topology within it (as Mento refers to). If that...
Woodworkers ? I'm serious about the English leather. I learned it from a Piano Mechanic. He used it to hide a small scratch on an almost unnocitable part of my piano. He noticed it--now I don't think anyone would notice it, even if you pointed it out to them.
Tuners to audition under 700 Magnum Dynalab FT-11. You can find it used for around $350 to $375 usually. It is FM only.
Best Budget Bookshelf Speakers? The Aegis One is very good for nearfield listening. I have considered it for my home office as well. However, if you plan to set up these speakers at any realistic distance away from the listener (say 5 feet or more), I don't think these are the b...
Woodworkers ? If you are just trying to mask the scratches, rather than remove them, a little English Leather in the right tone works quite well. It won't give the professional results that Tubegroover's method will, but you run little risk of hurting your spea...
Is Genesis Out of Business? It was about 4 or 5 months ago that I contacted them. It was regarding a Servo 12 subwoofer. They no longer make this, nor do they service it. The amp to the unit was made by a different company altogether. They did fax me the full schematics to t...
Bookshelf speakers with the best bass... I'll second Red Rose. Sugerbrie's advice should also be headed. The Red Rose monitors are ported in the rear, and if they are not set up right they will sound pretty bad. If you are forced to put these into a bookshelf--these probably won't work.
What is your OTHER passion? It's interesting that most of these hobbies involve speed. Mine too. Sports cars, bicycling (road racing), and snow skiing. Wonder why that correlation exists with audiophiles.
