monitor w/ bass?
I agree with the Red Rose # 3. I was amazed at the soundstage and imaging (which was largely due to the fact that the bass was so realistic) this bookshelf speaker produced. I like the B&Ws as well, but not as much as the Red Rose. I could eas...
Headphones
I own Seinheiser 580 and have listened to the 600 (which are much better than the 580). I do not have any experience with the Grado. As to a headphone amp, either headroom amps or melos tube. I really like tubes with headphones. However, I would r...
surround question
Go ahead and wire it for 7.1 but don't use it that way until you have different signals for the side and rear channels. Their delays should be different as is the material (to a small degree). The only way I would have both side and rears is for m...
Bookshelf sized-cost no object
I've listened to the Red Rose #3 and was very impressed. It has bass like no speaker that size should. Combined with the articulation of the ribbon tweeter this speaker presented a soundstage like a far larger (and perhaps more expensive) speaker....
Line doubler, do I want one????
Tireguy: I'm not familiar with that projector, but since it's a Sharp I'm going to guess it's an LCD with a built in "doubler". I put "doubler" in quotes because it's really a misnomer. Most doublers just convert the interlaced scan to progressive...
Definin' the blues (humor)
Not only does SD know jazz--he appears to know the blues as well. Loved it!!
Who's got a trick tweeter bi-amp system?
Electrostatics usually benefit greatly from biamping (I take you have a hybrid design like Martin Logan). The speaker, model, and whether or not it is applicable for active cross-over are all important. Some speakers are really not designed for ac...
What Does It Take to be an Audiophile?
I don't think there are any equations that would say whether or not you are or are not an audiophile. I think a quote from "the Matrix" sums it up: "It's kind of like being in love, no one can tell you if you are or you aren't, but YOU know it, th...
Svetlana vs Electro-Harmonix EL-34 tubes
I prefer that Electo-Harmonix. They are more dynamic and detailed in the midrange--a little less tubby sounding than the Svetlana. This was in Cary 40M signatures.
Infra-Red Sensors for Installations?
Try this website:http://www.smarthome.com/I'm sure they have it. I've seen it one of their catalogs before. I'm sure it's cheaper than Adcoms. Radioshack also sells repeaters, but I don't know if they have the type you are looking for--but they ar...
Cable TV hum and related ??'s
Ki is right. There's another device called the Magic Box, that does the exact same thing. It's about the same price as well.
Best Mid Fi Amp from 90s to today. Look
I've heard the Classe 10 (not the 15) and the DR25. Both are excellent. I prefer the DR25 a little more--it sounds less analytical to me, but that's just personal preference. Both are very good amps. Funny thing is I own a 10 and do not own a DR a...
Spkr Cable for Martin Logan SL3s
Definitely bi-wire. I'm not a fan of networked wire. I have listened to it on ML Requests, but prefer AudioQuest. As to what cable in the Audioquest line I would look at Midnight, Forest, or Clear. Midnight is the real bargain. If you can get Clea...
Jeff Rowland or Mark Levinson???
Well it looks like I'm going to rock the boat a little on this one. I've owned a Roland Model 5 and replaced it with Mark Levinson reference 20.0 monoblocks. Now, keep in mind that even on the used market there is a significant difference in price...
SACD?????
I bought the 9000ES, but primarily because I wanted a better picture quality for DVD movies. It definitely delivered. The sound quality (digital out on 5.1 and DTS soundtracks) is also superb. As to SACD, I agree with many of the above posts. It i...
