Beating a Dead Horse. SUBS As far as cost effective solutions: I'm using a Genesis Servo 12. It does keep up with ML, but it does not have the bass extension I would like. While it's rated to go down to 20 Hz, it begins to roll off around 25-28 Hz (but it is flat to that po...
4 Mono s Kenny: There are some differences in the amps, but in my case that is exactly what I was looking for. The Krell's are very fast, dynamic, and have a high damping factor to control the bass. I would not use them on the panels as I find they are a b...
Audioquest Cable leaks on its return leg Is some kind of short, with resistance built into the negative leg to ground, or is it the same result, but from the actual cable leaking to the shield? Please clarify what exactly is going on, how you discovered it, and how you measured it. Is it...
4 Mono s I'm using 4 mono's. I'm using different amps for the top and bottom, based on the characteristics of the amp and the sound I'm trying to acheive. I use Levinson Reference 20.0 on top, and Krell KMA 160 on bottom. The Levinson's are smooth, well de...
ML Aerius/room tweak Have you tried the acoustic foam at the first reflection point on the side wall? That will likely give you a near flat response and won't destroy the reflected waves from the rear of the speaker. In order to create the electrostatic magic, you rea...
Members: start a music review section? Kelly: I didn't know Amazon did reviews like this. I got the concept from a variety of things, Netflix (great DVD rental site by the way), the Tracking Angle's scale, and the search engine at CD NOW. I thought I was being over ambitious about this...
Members: start a music review section? I agree completely, but would add a twist to it. I don't think Audiogon will go for it, because it is very intensive, but it would be so useful.First you have to have a great search engine, so that you can find what you are looking for. There are ...
Website leaking oil? There was a previous post on this. Apparently they thought that charging a percentage of the sale would be appropriate. One example showed that it would cost 8% to sell a piece of gear there as opposed to $2 here on Audiogon. I don't know what tho...
Cable Supenders - Anyone Try Vibrapods? My question would be why ceramic? Is there a certain resonant frequency that ceramic avoids or doesn't transmit? I can see getting the cables off the floor using something that either absorbs (vibrapods) or dissapates (cones--not practicle I reali...
For You: THE most imprortant element... It's the music, but I can't get involved in it if it isn't sonically and technically excellent--guess that's why I'm sucked into this hobby for good.
What Are Your Audio Morals? Good Thread. Honesty and integrity is the only way to deal with this issue. I have demoed stuff at a dealer with no intention of buying (not on the internet either). I tell the dealer, I'm not buying but would like to hear speaker X. I ask them on...
Beating a Dead Horse. SUBS ML is making a unit with 3 active drivers. I believe they are 10inch (they may be 8 inch). Given MLs commitment to music and integration (bass to panels), this will likely be the right sub for your speakers. It's due out in fall. I believe it call...
Darn it, I scratched my Roland Now what Depends on how good you want it to look and how much you want to pay. You can get it perfect by repainting it--but it doesn't sound that bad. I would suggest going to the local Auto Parts store. Get some rubbing compound, designed to remove simila...
Best Vibes in Jazz Frap and Jbaxley: Thanks for the very specific suggestions--I'm going to buy those, assuming I can find them.Kubla and SD: Sounds like I need some Lionel Hampton--did you know his name appears on no less than 150 albums? Since I'm probably not goi...
advice for an old newbie A friend of mine recently got the Pro-ject. I gave him a used Van den Hul 10 cartridge. It's an excellent set-up. I think the Pro-ject is a real value in the $1k range. Enjoy it--and welcome back to vinyl. |
