Skywire's cables... experiences? Scarcity thereof?
Interesting, Agisthos. I do love the SE's but the 1400 and the 2020 have seriously impressed me. Sooooo quiet yet so detailed and as always the tone is right on. What sonic signature do you hear with the stranded silver plated copper? So far--espe...
great bookshelf speakers vs 12-18 k floor speakers
You know-- recently I was listening to a small pair of active speakers (the Audioengine speakers at about 350 bucks a pair) in my girlfriend's studio apartment here in Manhattan. The bookshelves behind them serve as diffusion and the lumber planks...
Best speaker value between $1800-$2100
you know-- agree with the poster above that the Response 2.5 from Proac is a lovely thing-- owned a pair for several years. But prior to them I owned the 1.5's and felt them to actually have the more upfront present midrange of the two. The profil...
Speakers in 10-15K price range for Classical music
As an opera and classical music lover whom has been through many a speaker, several stand out for me--1. Living Voice OBX-RW (newer- more refined version)- perhaps with a sub if you like (a damn good one or two though like a high-end Rel)2. Daedal...
Need preamp recommendation
I wouldnt mind recommending my current fave preamp, the Red Wine Audio Isabella. In your price range, quiet as the proverbial church mouse- in fact quieter what with the battery power and all- and small/reliable/simple. Can come with a head amp an...
Which speaker for 30 watts amplification at $1000?
A used pair of Proac Response twos perhaps? Many rockers enjoy the ballsy capabilities of a used pair of Response twos. They are definitely not 'prissy' high-end speakers and would likely respond well to the Pass.
You know you have "it" bad when...................
you buy amps and preamps in 'twos' so you can sell the one that 'loses'...
Daedalus
LOL!!! I know it's 'glowing'-- I wrote it ;)
Daedalus
NGlazer, sorry if I implied you were dissing anyone - I didnt mean to! I was just wanting a bit of a preview about the Daedalus review before I get home and check it out. I agree with Lou that the Daedaluses are either 'sensitive' to cabling or 'r...
Daedalus
As I haven't read Marty's Daedalus review yet (I will- I'm a subscriber but im out of state right now so cant get to the mailbox)- Nglazer, if you have, could you tell me his 'reservations' about the Ulysses? What made the review less than 'glowin...
Daedalus
No-- unfortunately I have never heard the 1.1 or the 2.1 or for that matter, the Ulysses. Of course, I would love to-- and if they are any 'better' than the DA-RMa- well-- that would be amazing. I will certainly try to hear the Ulysses in the fut...

I hereby swear never to prevaricate again. Audiophiles' honor. But don't ya mean 'pontificate' or something? Doesn't prevaricate mean to lie?! Subjectivity it all is, but I tell it like I hear it.Of course you realize, my next review will now like...
advice on amp - $3,500 maximum budget
I recently discovered a little company called Plinius and may I say my p10 amplifier is among the best I've heard at pulling off just a trace of warmth without going overboard. Along these lines, perhaps one of their class a amps might float your ...
Best amps for Totem hawks?? please help
Not really BORING per se-- as in slow and pokey or something. Just-- mechanical. Like "here is your music sir. Will that be all?" No-- please give me a bit of humanity will ya? "I cant do that Dave-- I can only reproduce what I am fed." Bryston (a...
Best amps for Totem hawks?? please help
Had the A5 amp in house for a time. Listened via a Modwright SE preamp. In comparison to Bel Canto Ref 1000's, a Unico SE integrated, a Bel Canto S300 and an ARC 100.2, it sounded rather mechanical-- kind of like Thiel speakers have always sounded...
