Tracking Troubles--Upgrade or Setup?
Thanks, Dougdeacon. Looks like I have a few things to try--and I appreciate it. I had wondered if I was hearing clipping, but I hadn't considered that the new LPs might be flawed. It'll be a relief if I don't have to throw money at the problem, or...
Why I sell
Regardless of what an ad says, good, clear, well-lighted photos are a must. A lot of what's mentioned here involves trust, so they should particularly include close-ups of any and all flaws or markings: this provides a kind of full, non-verbal dis...
Spendor S3/5 standard vs “SE” version????
I'm reviving this long-asleep thread because I've been wondering about the same thing, and the descriptions here (apart from Bojack's) are the opposite of the description and measurements in the Stereophile review of both speakers. Stereophile ain...
Tinnitus Article
Thanks for picking up where I screwed up, Cincy bob.
Good beginner tube amp suggestions
Assuming you're looking for an integrated, I'd second Celtic66's Jolida rec for either the 1301 or 1501. They're both hybrids, but as such are a great and affordable way to get into tubes. I owned a 1501, loved the sound and would have kept it if ...
Headphone Listeners?
Thanks again to everyone here for responding. I was lucky enough just now to snag the ASL amp on a classified posted today, so it looks like that's my first step into more serious headphone listening--it does seem to be the place where my dollars ...
Headphone Listeners?
Thanks for your responses. To fill out my options as I'm seeing them now: I agree, Dave, that ultimately getting my speaker setup up to the quality of the headphone setup might wind up being my goal. And from what you both say I suspect I might be...
Speakers that have wide horizontal dispersion
The Totem Model 1 sounds great all over the room, as do many of their other models. Used, they would fit your budget.
CDP caused tinnitus?
I've been watching this thread with interest, as I'm a tinnitus sufferer myself. I do think a new digital source or DAC would be likely to help; in a situation very similar to yours, it did for me. I still can't listen to my iPod at even low volum...
What's causing distortion at musical climax?
With the phenomenon you describe, worn used records seem to be the biggest culprit for me--some of my favorites among them. My assumption has been that years of mistracking in somebody else's hands wore the distortion into the groove. If I'm wrong...
On the Fence with Analog Vs. Digital. Need Help
Jwglista: I bought the Playstation One because I was saving my few pennies for a CD player I wouldn't be able to afford for a good while, and in the meantime all of my CDs were sitting practically unlistened to because I couldn't stand the harsh t...
On the Fence with Analog Vs. Digital. Need Help
Jwglista: It's hard to argue with vinyl sounding great, which it does, but if buying a vinyl rig and all that goes with it won't solve the problem you're having right now--unpleasant digital playback--you may (and I speak from my own experience) f...
Sony Playstation 1 for a CD player ???
Rhing: thanks for the rec. I'll look into the Monster--and the Walmart cable while I'm at it. I'm using 12G Tributaries wire now, and $8 is the kind of upgrade I can afford. Worth a shot.
Sony Playstation 1 for a CD player ???
Reviving this thread, as I've had a Playstation in my system for a week now and couldn't be happier. With no warm-up at all, I plugged it in and spun a disc, and my wife and I looked at each other and broke out laughing it sounded so good. I've ke...
Need some $500 & under Amp recommendations
Djembeplay--the Rega Brio is $695 at Music Direct. And I will say that Tobias's comments on the NAD are spot-on. With the source you're planning for (especially considering the tubes in the Paradisia, which might balance its dryness), it could be ...
