Mcintosh C-2200 or Aesthetix Calypso? You can not only fix recordings but your room as well with tone controls. You could even opt for the C46 (which I find more transparent and dynamic than the 2200) that has an 8 band EQ and is much more useful than just "bass" and "treble" control....
Which is more important? Amp or Preamp? IME, the preamp makes a bigger difference. It is much more complex circuit-wise than an amp and the signal levels are lower so it makes perfect sense.
Maggies moved 6 inches...big improvement Wouldn't it be much easier to tilt them back a few degrees instead? It seems like hangning them would be hard on the frail frame after a few years.
Help Needed: Is my system balanced? Upgrading the speakers would be the next step I would take. They will make a big difference in sound quality.
Does one NEED multiple amps? I usually have around 3 amplifiers. Each one is suited to a particular type of music - it's an optimization solution.
Rega Jupiter & Apollo..... According to Diapason magazine and my Rega dealer, the Apollo. The Jupiter is a lame duck to be replaced with a new one consisiting of the Apollo's transport. Apparenly Rega also realizes the Jupiter's power has been usurped.
Musical? If you don't know yet, no one will be able to tell you. ;)
Listening Fatique- componet or speaker issue. PC music...gotta love it.
Which player has all this???? The new McIntosh MCD201 and Audio Aero Prestige but I think both are much more than $3000.
VTL IT-85 or Mcintosh MA6500 Les - I totally agree with your observations. Glad you found an integrated you really like. Enjoy the McIntosh.
B&W 804, JM Lab 918, Thiel 2.4, or Helicon 400? With those Rotels, I would suggest the Dali would be a great match. The Dalis are sensual and rich. The Thiels may well sound dry with Rotel IMO. The JM Lab are also very phase coherent and have already gotten very good press in Europe. I auditine...
Speakers in the range of $3 to $4.5k per pair? Yes, I agree JM Labs are much better than B&Ws in general - I was just suggesting they are somewhat similar family of sound.Which model depends on your room size. If it is greater than 270 sqft or so, I would say the 936. If less, the 926 (whi...
CLASS A AMPLIFIERS No. The sonic benefit is that the entire signal is swung by a transistor (or several in parallel) instead of individual halves of the signal being split up by two different transistors. Since there is no "handing off" of the signal to another tran...
EQ's... why doesnt everybody have one? My EQ is clearly the best room treatment I have ever had!
Efficient speakers v. less efficient speakers Rlew - I intended my reply to be a direct answer to your question. There will be a difference and it is mostly due to the speaker designs being inherently different. The amplifier power level is largely irrelevant assuming you are comparing same s... |
