Rotel RCD 991 or 1072?
8260 a huge step over the 1072? I guess if you want a smoother sound, that would be the case but overall, I find the 8260 lacks detail and dynamics. Probably depends on whether the speakers can reproduce the detail sufficiently.
Wheres my week link????
The problem is clear: your CDP is lacking detail and dynamics. I would ditch the universal (good ones are very expensive) and get a very nice redbook player that has plenty of detail. I am very familiar with the 8260 and it isn't detailed but soft...

What does 'Fast mean?
I think the point here is harmonic reproduction - not the speed of light or the switching speed of devices.Reproducing harmonics means reproducing music. The question is whether the harmonics we hear are from the media or the electronics. The elec...
I'm SHOCKED literally .
Sounds like you have a floating ground on your preamp. You can lift the ground by using a three-to-two prong adapter plug. If there are only two prongs on the preamps plug already, then check to see if you are using balanced cables. It could be th...
Zappa?
Overnight Sensation is my favorite Zappa - particularly Dynamo Hum. simply hilarious!
Burned out hi fi salesman
I too kind of agree with the 5% thing if the gear is competantly setup. I have heard the diminishing returns myself and at this point, I let functionality and looks play a role, in addition to sound quality of course, in the final decision making ...
McIntosh or BAT amps what is your preference
I replaced my BAT VK-3i with a McIntosh C42 and the improvement is remarkably large for two preamps that were originally close in retail price. The BAT was missing a lot in terms of inner detail and soundstage organization so it never was able to ...
Are reviewers biased towards equipment they own?
Everyone is biased by everything they know - not just by their gear.
What does 'Fast mean?
Chopping off the overhang can be unnatural reproduction of music. A balance is needed for accuracy - the world is not all black and white. Arthur
Pre-Amp Reliability -- 4th time mine has conked
I too think 4x in 15 yrs is excessive. I second the McIntosh idea!
Is Martin Logan goin to Big Box stores?
They've been at Tweeter for ages.
Just bought a nitty gritty, hear no difference.
that is hilarious!
CJ pre Noise Floor
I used to have a PV10L and agree with Chuck that it should only be audible less than one foot from the tweeters. If you like the sound otherwise, I would replace the tubes since they could very well be worn out by this point in time. Arthur
