Best speaker for $1500???, Have Cary SLI-80
JM Lab Cobalt 826. Excellent little speaker with surprising efficiency and low end and a very refined top end. Good luck! Arthur
$800-$1500 Integrated amps with a subwoofer output
I second Antique Sound Labs. I think nearly all their new models have sub out but if you buy used, ask about it first because the early amps didn't.
A'gon Classified or Auction - Which do you prefer?
Classifieds as well. For auctions, I go to Ebay.
McIntosh or BAT amps what is your preference
Ken -- I would definately get the MC352 and C45. I am familiar with the MC300 (nearly identical circuits as those in the 7300) and the there is no doubt - the MC352 is a much better amp. Arthur
Are horn speaker colored or more open and dynamic?
Ah yes indeed, the second law of thermodynamics creeps in yet again. The trade-off doesn't exist only in audio, but in EVERYTHING. The energy balance has to hold. This is the very idea that has lead me to lose interest in opinionated posts in audi...
Levinson 33 Archaic????
His response reminds me of some of my non-audiophile buddies: When they want to "test drive" my stereo, they want me to turn it up as far as it will go! The first time I heard someone say that, I thought it was a joke but I have since met like 10 ...
What speakers go best with a Mcintosh MC240
Definately look into JM Lab. They are wonderfully articulate speakers which works great with McIntoshes and they are sensitive to boot. My Electra 926s use 1/4 of the power my Paradigm Reference 100.2s did for the same volume level (I know because...
Opinions of Burmester Rondo integrated?
I am curious about it too. I have the Rondo on my "need to buy and try" list.
Safe cleaning of Vintage McIntosh chrome amps?
I used 0000 steel wool on mine and just did it around the silk screening, leaving those parts untouched. I think that is about as good as you can do. They shined up unbelievably considring how bad they looked! I guess you could wax afterwards but ...
Please Recommend 5 ch Amp that...
I like the McIntosh MC126 a lot. It is a little warmer than the Bryston and will definately be in for the long run. The MC206 is even better but it is (still) expensive.
how much influence has Audiogon had
I think Kal is right. I carefully watch how this forum changes depending on what is reviewed in the mags. There are very interesting psychological dynamics going on in these forums if you analyse the details.
Speakers with great high and mid range
JM Lab tends to fit your description and I would definately add them to your list. I have a pair of Electra 926 that you can get used in your price range. Their highs and mids are incredibly clear and beautiful. I am very impressed with JM speaker...
Autoformer tech info is desired...
remarkable indeed. Listen to a McIntosh SS amp and find out!
McIntosh .. One step back
I second the C712 idea if you are short on cash. I've had one for the last 3 years and love its simplicity and silky sound. For the amp, it's hard to beat a MC352. Good luck! Arthur
Classe or McIntosh
I am familiar with the MC240 and it is very beautiful sounding. At the time I had Paradigm ref 100.2 and it worked great as long as you didn't overdo the volume. I want to get one in the future. Michaela is right on the mark - expect to get a big ...
