Avantgarde Uno Loudspeakers: Comments? Good point Sedond. Buying a new pair of speakers is definitely not in my budget at this time. Considering their dynamic range the Avantgardes would not be a good choice for an apartment dweller such as me. Hope to change this some day. Fifteen dol...
Avantgarde Uno Loudspeakers: Comments? Thanks for the update Sedond. I will try to get a copy of it. I am interested in these speakers because the vast majority of owners like them and because of their high efficiency. Definite worth checking out.
Avantgarde Uno Loudspeakers: Comments? Avantgarde could clear up a lot of questions about their speakers performance if they published frequency response measurements. The Avantgardes should provide flat response along with the acknowledged high efficiency in order to justify such high...
Pass Labs X-1, X-2, X-0 Haven't heard them but suspect they provide a very neutral clear sound on a dead silent back ground. You probably get Sonic Frontiers Line 3 performance but with no tube maintenance requirements.
Wanted: Exceptional preamp w/remote I am very happy with my Sonic Frontiers Line 3. It provides great performance and a great remote all for a very competitive price as compared to other vendor's models.
How did U get into this expensive hobby? When I was a kid back in the 70's I was fortunate to get to hear a stereo based around a couple of Klipsh Cornerhorns (very popular in Arkansas where I grew up). This showed me that a lot was possible with stereo. I have always enjoyed listening t...
Sonic Frontiers Preamps - Cold & thin? I used to own an ARC LS22 which I sold after I bought a Line 3. The Line 3 sounds more neutral than the LS22 (I find that I like it better as I don't won't my system to add or subtract anything from the source material). Added bonuses are the sepe...
Krell, Classe or Bryston? Clarification: I meant to say buying used in my previous post.
Krell, Classe or Bryston? Cornfedboy is right about the stinging depreciation that you will experience buying a new high end amp. Krell's propensity to add new models has to hurt the resale value of the older models. This can be a plus if you are a buyer. You should be abl...
Krell, Classe or Bryston? I disagree with Leafs about the quality of sound that you get from a Krell amp. I own both a Bryston 4BST and a Krell KSA 200S. There is no doubt that the Krell has more drive capability for low impedance loads. That said I find that the Bryston 4...
"Krell" is a buzzword Carl, I've got to disagree with you on this one. Sky high valuations in the market (or used to be in NASDAQ,s case) show that a lot of investors have been overcome by greed and speculation. BTW, I don't mean to suggest that this includes you. IMO,...
Bryston 4B ST Opinions Needed Please I have been very happy with my 4BST. If you decide to go with a Bryston then you definitely want one of the ST series as it has a much lower noise floor than the previous generation of amps. The fully transferable warranty can't be beat. A pot in ...
1 million dollar speaker made by Kharma Gotta say reading this thread sure lightened up my day. Sorry Lotuss4, but Monica should have realized that there could be serious consequences for having an affair with the President. Also, the 50's fall out shelter may not be a bad thing to have...
Tube Pre-amp beneficial? I have no experience with solid state pre-amps so I can't comment on differences in sound quality. There are a couple of disavantages to tubes. The noise floor is not as low as with solid state and the tubes have to be periodically replaced (not a...
Class "A" solid state vs. Tube amp.? I like my SF Line 3 preamp. However; the generally higher intial and maintenance costs of tube amplifiers caused me to decide to go with a solid state amplifier. One of the new pass amps may be the way to go if one can afford it. |
