Ohm Speakers, thoughts? I own a pair of Walsh 300's which I bought in 1999. Overall, I am very happy with them. Advantages: 1)excellent midrange and great sound stage. Don't have to sit in the sweet spot for good results. 2)Decent bass response. 3) Reasonable price range...
what speakers do the best "disappearing act"?? My Ohm Walsh 300's do a great job in this category.
Ground for Cable TV Hummmmmmmmmmm Mrderrick and Fpeel have it right about the correct fix. The problem is that the cable TV coax sheath provides an alternate ground path for the AC neutral wire if the coax ground is not in close proximity to the common AC ground point. The Radio S...
Gold disk VS regular disk? I agree that remastering is the main source of any improvements. As long as the laser decodes both aluminum and gold disks correctly then there will be no difference in sound. Is gold more reliable then aluminum? Maybe a CD transport designer will...
Hum and Hiss from Sonic Frontier Preamp I forgot to mention that I have never used headphones with the Line 3.
Hum and Hiss from Sonic Frontier Preamp I agree completely with Sgmlaw. I have a line three and there is a slight hiss that is audible if you place your ears next to one of the speakers with no active source. Increasing the volume control does not change the hiss amplitude appreciably w...
Sunfire Cinema Grande balanced? Check the unit specifications for the XLR pinout. If it lists positive, negative, and ground (I forget the corresponding pin numbers) then it is a true XLR. I doubt that Bob Carver would pull a stunt like this which would border on fraud if the XL...
Sour DOW/NASDAQ to kill digital future? The current market selloff will probably slow new developments down but will not kill them. Wiped out portfolios will cause new purchases to be postponed. The good news is that a few interest rate cuts along with lower taxes add up to real economi...
Waveform mach solo's, Are they good? It really is a shame that Waveform is no more. Waveform was one of the few companies that actually provides anechoic chamber measurement of their speakers. From reading John Ottvos notice on the web site I get the impression that Waveform was done...
The best speaker you ever heard? I don't know what the best speaker is. However, I sure like the way my Ohm Walsh 300's sound. The only possession I own that I value more is my paratrooper Israeli Galil.
Best preamp under 5k for Krell amp I have a Sonic Froniers Line 3 mated to a Krell KSA200S. For speakers I am using a pair of Ohm Walsh 300's. I am very happy with the way my system sounds.
Best Preamp under $5k?? You're right Doug. I bought the line 3 used for $2700 last May on auction. Right after my purchase new units came out of the wood work. I chalk it up to my bad luck. I don't have the warranty but I have never had any problems with the Line 3 so fa...
Best Preamp under $5k?? Not sure about SS gear but I agree that 5K will get the job done when it comes to tube preamps. My vote goes to the SF Line 3. I never feel that I am missing something or that I wished that it sounded different. At less than 3K for a mint used uni...
Classe vs. Sonic Frontiers I am not familiar with Classe's products. I love my SF line 3. I never think that I am missing anything when I listen to it. The price is also great. I use it along with a Krell KSA 200S to drive a pair of Ohm Walsh 300's. I am curious as to how i...
Heaviest Amps ever made. One disadvantage is shipping costs and moving. From my experience you will be lucky if no damage occurs during shipping. One advantage other than the cool big Harley look is that it makes a thiefs job a lot harder. |
