Are active speakers the best upgrade
An active crossover system should offer much better amplitude control then a passive system. The active crossover design is speaker specific and will not transfer to different speakers. This is what the now defunct Waveform speaker line used. The ...
what is the best super speaker and why?
Bioman, go with what sounds best to you. It appears that audiophiles either love the Avantgardes or hate them. I am going to try to audition them so I can form my own opinion. It is too bad that they and most other speaker manufacturers don't prov...
2 Channel pre-amp...where to start...
Rap, I haven't researched it at this point. I would think that a shop that caters to the recording performance side of the business would have a switch panel for selecting sources. As far as preamps are concerned if your surround sound processor h...
2 Channel pre-amp...where to start...
Another approach would be to add a two port passive selector switch in series with the input to your amp. One port facing your two channel audio preamp and the second port facing the home theatre processor.
SF Owners - worthwhile to upgrade a Line 1 to SE?
I agree with Garfish that different tubes will make the most difference. I own a stock Line 3 and it works great. I have no current plans to upgrade it. If something fails requiring the unit to be sent in for repair then I will consider getting it...
Ohm Speakers, thoughts?
Sean,Maybe what looks like a 'conventional' woofer is actually some new type of driver. A conventional woofer and tweeter would not produce the sound that I get from my speakers. As I've stated previously I don't see how the imaging could be impro...
Ohm Speakers, thoughts?
Sean,I think that you are mistaken about the design of the newer Ohm drivers. The reason that I say this is from reading Ohm's literature and from listening to the speakers. If the can was just a woofer/tweeter combination then you would not get t...
Ohm Speakers, thoughts?
The Walsh driver handles the low end up through the midrange. It is crossed over to a tweeter for the high end. Not sure about the crossover point or what order filter it is. You will have to contact Ohm for this info. The Walsh driver acts like a...
Two subwoofers??
Sorry about the misunderstanding. With the extended frequency range of your better quality subs it is not necessary to split the 80Hz to 20HZ range. So I still think that using an independent sub per channel would be your best option.
Two subwoofers??
I don't see the need to use three subs as you suggest because the Velodyne frequency response is flat from 100 Hz down. Using two subs for the front channels and a third sub for the home theater channel would be sweet if you have the budget plus f...
Two subwoofers??
The advantage of using two subs is that you can place them next to each speaker which should allow you to cross them over at a higher frequency then if you use just one. Not using the A+B summing will let them run 3dB lower than one sub alone. Loo...
BAT VK-5i more tube-like than new VK-50SE?
I am curious how the VK-50SE compares to the SF Line 3. I own a Line 3 and am very happy with it. BAT's literature indicates that the new high performance 6H30 tubes yield high performance with a simpler circuit design then what is used in the Lin...
Ohm Speakers, thoughts?
Sean,I never opened the sealed can so I can't comment as to what is inside. Whatever it is it works great in my opinion.Best regards,7p62mm
Does Cary stack up to ARC
Kettle,Not sure which is the best tube amp; but, I would like to comment on your thoughts about getting away from the long balanced interconnects. All the information that I have read indicates that long preamp interconnect cables are a better opt...
Okay, the gloves are off. Let the fur fly
I tend to think that a compromise may be in order. I own a pair of Ohm speakers and it does sound like Sean is describing them in his post. Somewhere down the line when the recession ends I plan to add a subwoofer to my system. This will lessen th...
