Ayre V-5x vs. McCormack DNA 225 No problem, Bigtee, I will happily agree to disagree. As long as we're speaking of reviews, below is one by Martin DeWulf that I read before buying my DNA-225 and which may be of interest to Dumboat regarding another perspective visa vis soundstag...
Ayre V-5x vs. McCormack DNA 225 Not to beat a dead horse, here, but it looks like dumboat is looking to make a purchasing decision and I feel that the characterization of the DNA-225 as lacking in soundstage is wholly unfair. And, while I cant believe that I am addressing the m...
Ayre V-5x vs. McCormack DNA 225 I personally don't think the Ayre provides more than a very marginally larger soundstage nor a quieter background than the 225, in my experience. I've also heard the 225 and the 350a in the exact same system and I beg to differ. In fact, I thought...
What happened to Loth-X? I bought a Loth-X modified tonearm (based on a PT-6) awhile back that is just outstanding. They did away with the viscous damping cup added a rewire and a different set of RCA cables. Well worth the dough!
About Lugnut -- Patrick Malone Having just returned from a trip back to the Midwest, having checked my e-mail, and then seeing this thread, this news hit me much colder than the arctic blasts I was forced to endure there. On the one hand, I am deeply saddened, having gotten to ...
Record Cleaner Gotta agree with Steve, except that the RRL fluids are a bit cheaper through Galen Carol Audio (gcaudio.com).
Von Schweikert v. Tyler Question I have a dedicated 23X17 listening room so distance from the wall is not an issue.
JM Lab Electra Be 'LIMITED'??? All of the JM Labs speakers I've heard have been very nice, indeed.Every time I hear "limited", though, I am reminded of the old Seinfeld routine. "Take the Ford LTD. Limited? Yeah, limited to how many they can sell!" :-)
Ultimate challenge biggest bang speaker Tom, you are being the master of the understatment, here! :-)Now, given a design scheme, I could build a cabinet that would rival ANY available. But the electronics and driver matching. That's where the gum sticks to my shoe. Maybe we should combi...
Record Cleaner If fmpnd is correct, I'll agree that the Loricraft is a great machine, but a wee outta my range. If I didn't have my 16.5, I'd probably build one.Ooops, and I should clarify my typo above to read that I meant a few pops and clicks AREN'T the worst...
Record Cleaner Over the years, I have tried virtually every commercially available record cleaning fluid and myriad home brews. Ive read the accounts and experiences of others regarding most all of them, too. One person will swear by Product A, swearing that is...
Cost to upgrade Vandersteen 3A's to 3A sigs.?? ? Scott, correct me if I am wrong, but the upgrade does not include any changes to the drivers - and that the drivers in the 3A's are not the same as those found in the 3A's Signatures (if bought as 3A Signatures) - such that if one upgrades, say, a...
Anyone know anythng about this AT cartridge? I am not really sure what the PQ stands for (maybe something "quad"). I have a NOS and well used AT14Sa and a NOS AT15Sa cartridges which really sound damn good. They have nude Shibata stylii and were used a lot in quad systems back in the 70's. N...
Explain this to me like I'm a 5-Year Old: Matching Among a couple of other items, I have always found the brief discussion of VTA in that link to be "interesting".
"The Law of Diminishing Returns"??? Sean hit the nail on this one and I will give an example which I think is germaine to the issue. Kevin Carter of K&K Audio (who has also designed for VAC and Art Audio), developed an extremely nice tube 6n1p-based tube phono stage through his ... |
