Ohm Speakers, thoughts?
Funny, refurbishing my trusty old Ohm C-2's for my HT system about six months ago is what pushed me toward "rejoining" the higher end audio world after a long absence and assembling a separate system. While the C-2's do not have a place in a high-...
Suspended vs. nonsuspended TT?
Here is a wall mount alternative that I have used to great effect with my non-suspended Nottingham Spacedeck that will probably make some tweak meisters cringe. I looked at several pre-made wall mounts and found those within my budget to be somewh...
McCormack DNA1 options
Not sure if the DNA-225 I have will compare in combination with preamps in the same fashion as your 0.5 Deluxe, but I can tell you that the DNA-225 paired with a Kora Eclipse (Siemens goldpin tubes) produces absolute "blackness". Might be worth an...
Power cord question
A solution would be for the industry to adopt a universal system for attaching the power cord to a given component - in much the same way that peripheral devices are "screwed" into the back of a computer CPU. Except, then, there'd be a $400 set of...
Who's hip to the Nottingham line of Turntables???
I am sure this will meet with some disagreement, but while I do respect the virtues of the VPI tables, IMHO, you have to move up to the TNT line to outdo the Nottingham Space or Hyper tables. That, of course, puts you well above the price range me...
In the last 20-30 years, what has changed most...
I agree with Albert and his idea of preferring and older amps over and older preamps. Let's see, 30 years. That would make in 1972, huh? The dawn of the quadraphonic era - about the time when the notion of my old Marantz 4400 receiver was hatched ...
Speaker Cable Upgrade Path Advise, Please
I probably should qualify my comments about the Crosslinks a bit. Yes, they are the bottom of the ladder in Cardas. But, they do provide surprisingly excellent soundstage and good imaging. The midrange is good, but the highs are stratospherically ...
Who's hip to the Nottingham line of Turntables???
Personally, I think the Nottingham Spacedeck/Spacearm outdoes any of the other tables you mention, especially the Clearaudio Champion. The "hideous" paint job to which your refer is actually a laminate, not "panit". Beauty is in the eye of the beh...
What is a "shaded dog?"
Dang. That page is cool....
What is a "shaded dog?"
I thought "shaded dog" was the effect of taking a leak behind a concrete support column in the parking garage at the mall.
Best upgrade for the E88CC tubes for my Kora Pre?
I have an Eclipse with the Siemens tubes. Better sound (richer) than the stock tubes, but I would have interest in what others have tried, too.
What is the best Table/Arm combo for 2000 or less
I have a Nottingham Spacedeck/Spacearm and it is a great table. If you find one lightly used at generally advertised prices (around $1800), it is a bargain in this price range. You might even find one with a decent cartridge for this price if you ...
Aragon 8008BB vs Mccormack DNA225
I will have to admit that I have not heard the Aragon. I will say that I do own a DNA-225 and it is SWEET. Just be careful when matching components, especially speakers and preamps. Also, I would suggest upgrading the power cable.
A question of spikes...
Sol322 - I tried calling Paul at PSB. All I got was an answering woman who sort of chcukled and said, "oh, he is not available" and the after asking about spike length said she "wasn't really sure" regarding my questions and put me on hold while s...
Speaker Stands: to spike or not to spike..
Seems to be a few threads here on this general topic. I, too, am interested in experiences of others. I have a pair of PSB Stratus Goldi (floorstanders). I can tell you that I have a very common carpet and padding over a joist and plywood floor. A...
